The British Embassy in Albania is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now looking for a Judicial liaison and project officer to join the Justice and Home Affairs Team (JHA) in Tirana.

British Embassy Tirana is looking for an able, experienced and motivated person to support effective implementation of the UK-Albania Prisoner Transfer Agreement. The successful candidate will act as a liaison between the British Embassy, UK Ministry of Justice/His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS) and the Albanian judiciary and Prisons Directorate to complete key administrative tasks, track and monitor progress, identify challenges and importunities to improve processes, and work closely with the Justice and Home Affairs Project Manager to use insights to maximise the impact of justice and home affairs projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake all administration required for implementation of the Prisoner Transfer Agreement, including printing out electronic application packs from His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and submitting them to the Albanian Ministry of Justice and keeping a record and log of all live applications.
  • Liaise with the Albanian Ministry of Justice and judiciary to track and monitor progress and identify and address any issues or queries without delay.
  • Carry out translation of key correspondence between UK and Albanian authorities as required.
  • Facilitate logistics and act as go-between HMPPS and the relevant Albanian authorities to receive prisoners from the UK.
  • Facilitate visits for Albanian officials to the UK and UK Officials to Albania relating to the project.
  • Working closely with the JHA Project Manager, support the management of prison reform and technical assistance projects with the Albanian Prisons Directorate and judiciary.
  • Support broader British Embassy work and objectives where appropriate, to include crisis response and cover for HMG partners at post during periods of absence as required.
  • Where reasonable, the post holder will be expected to travel to prison and judicial establishments throughout Albania.
  • The Job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level that may be necessary.
  • There is a need for flexibility on the part of the Officer as tasks may change and occasional after-hours work may be needed.

  • A minimum of three years of relevant workexperience, for example admin experience and working in or with the Albanian justice system;
  • Fluency in English and Albanian at a C level according to CEFR Framework *
  • Effective communication and ability to adapt communication style to different situations;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to respond quickly to instructions;
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently;
  • IT skills including working knowledge of Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • University degree in a relevant subject (for example law).

This is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term basis for one-year with a view for extension.

The gross salary per month is ALL 134,826.

This is a full-time position of 5 days (36 hours net per week). Embassy working hours are from 08.30-17:00 Mon-Thu and 08.30-14:30 on Fridays.  

The Embassy supports the work-life balance of its employees and is open to flexible working.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The successful candidate must have the right to live and work in Albania.

The successful candidate will be required to pass a language skills test and undergo security clearance before commencing the role.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance - local and international ‘Vetting’ process will be performed to the successful candidate.
