The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British Government's international business development agency that helps UK-based companies to succeed in the global economy and assists UK companies in expanding their business abroad. Its range of expert services is tailored to the needs of individual businesses to maximise their international success and provides companies with knowledge, advice and practical support.

The Department for International Trade in Italy is currently seeking to recruit a Technology 4.0 and Fintech trade adviser with a good understanding in Advanced Traditional Manufacturing. The successful candidate will be based within the British Consulate General in Milan and will actively contribute to the attainment of the team's business objectives of identifying and supporting business opportunities from the UK into Italy. Specifically, the job holder will be appointed to assist the UK advanced engineering businesses in entering the Italian market, and growing their business once established.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of Unit in identifying, building and maintaining a network of working-level contacts with Technology 4.0 and Fintech leaders across government, industry and academia in the region to help promote UK capability.
  • Support the role of the Head of the Advanced Engineering Trade Team in Milan to deliver a successful trade export campaign for Italy, working collaboratively with other DIT markets in the Mediterranean region.
  • Contribute to delivering a market strategy to promote UK exports. This will be based upon knowledge and analysis of the national markets.
  • Support the lead of the organisation of trade campaigns, events (including exhibitions, trade missions, seminars, etc.) and outward visits of Italian personnel to the UK.
  • Work with local companies and institutions in the Technology 4.0 and Fintech industry wishing to partner with the UK for supplying to the local and global markets.
  • Manage relevant information sources and reports on activity in accordance with DIT procedures, including accurate recording of projects on DIT's management systems.
  • Work closely with wider UK Consulate staff and DIT London to identify export business opportunities for UK companies.
  • Work closely with the UK industry to deliver targeted support.
  • Excellent command (both oral and written) of English and Italian, Common European Framework level C1 or above (or equivalent). In order to work effectively and independently as part of a bilingual team.
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively with colleagues and contacts in the immediate and wider team.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.
  • Good sense of organisation and communication.
  • Excellent understanding of Italian business dynamics.
  • Prior exposure in the business private sector, in particular with proven technology and Fintech experience.
  • Experience of client relationship management skills acquired in a business environment would be welcome, with a clear commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Up-to-date IT skills.

This is a full-time temporary position with a two year contract, graded A2 (L). The contract will be reviewed towards the end of the term with a possibility of extending the same for an additional 12 months.

The monthly gross salary is Euro 2,188.42. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00. Some degree of flexibility is expected.

The job is based in Milan but the successful applicant may be expected to travel from time to time in connection with the job.

The appointment is subject to security clearance and the successful completion of a four month probationary period.

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax rate deductions (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme.

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General Milan are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.
