The British Embassy is looking for a Trade Adviser Global Growth A2 (L) to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) to support the work of a new Europe enquiry hub

The Department for International Trade (DIT) promotes British trade and investment around the world; helps to build an appetite for British goods and services globally; and works to encourage foreign investment into the UK. DIT also brings together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade & investment and to help businesses to succeed. The DIT team in Sweden comprises 14 people based in Stockholm. The team works with both Swedish investors and British companies doing business in Sweden.

The new position will work closely with a pilot regional enquiry hub and with DIT’s export support network in the UK to identify and drive high potential British exporters, including innovative SMEs and Mid-Sized Businesses (MSBs) into supply chains in Sweden. A core element of the role will be to deliver practical support to those companies, including information on market potential, in-market representation and clients. The job holder will also work proactively with the enquiry hub and with the UK regional network to communicate high value opportunities to business, in areas aligned to UK industrial strengths.

In parallel, the job holder will seek to expand networks of commercial partners in Sweden, including private sector providers of commercial services. As with all DIT positions, there will be a focus on working collaboratively with colleagues across the Embassy team - on policy, science & innovation and Visit Britain - to maximise opportunities for the UK. The work will be varied and demanding and the successful candidate will need to be a flexible, committed self-starter, able to juggle priorities and to work on demanding timelines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the production of analytical reports, briefs and other governmental communication. Maintain and develop administration and routine tasks of a commercial department. Contribute to the wider DIT and Embassy team in Sweden. (70%);
  • Support the Europe enquiry hub pilot in delivering commercial services, guidance, information and support to high potential British exporters – including innovative small companies, entrepreneurs and MSBs.  (20%);
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Europe to ensure a comprehensive and joined-up approach that maximizes the returns for high potential exporters. (5%);
  • Help to build in-market networks and partnerships able to provide commercial services, guidance, information and support alongside DIT teams. (5%).
  • University degree, Business/Economics or applicable subject;
  • Fluent English and Swedish (written and oral);
  • Previous commercial experience would be useful;
  • A self-starter, with the ability to organise self and work effectively;
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively on shared objectives with colleagues;
  • Networking skills;
  • Understand and focus on customer needs.
  • Swedish sector knowledge would be an advantage;
  • Advanced IT skills;
  • Flexibility to travel domestically and to the UK.
