Main purpose of job:

The Trade Development Manager will be responsible for helping UK Financial and Professional Services companies to enter the Australian market and provide support to UK companies already in Australia to grow their businesses. The role will involve developing and delivering an effective engagement strategy, in conjunction with the Sector Lead, that evaluates and delivers on market opportunity for UK companies in the Financial Services and Professional Services sector. There will be a need to work in close collaboration with the DIT team based in Auckland, New Zealand to deliver DIT priorities and contribute to the achievement of export win targets and grow UK-ANZ relationships.

The trade team in Australia works closely with the British Consul General on the UK’s wider prosperity agenda. The job holder will also be required to collaborate and liaise with the British Consul General on visits, programmes and prosperity work.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with teams across Australia and New Zealand to identify relevant contacts in market and developing sector propositions for the Financial and Professional Services industries which accurately reflect the scale and value of the opportunity for UK companies.
  • Develop and deliver a strategic engagement plan to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in market that will benefit UK companies doing business in Australia.
  • Conduct business research, produce sector reports, evaluate and disseminate business opportunities and market intelligence to support UK firms make informed decisions about opportunities in the agreed sectors.
  • As an integral part of the ANZ sector network, contribute to export win targets through identification of and engagement with export ready UK companies.
  • Represent the UK Government effectively at various events in the Australian market, meet and brief UK businesses independently on the market and assist with the development of market entry and market growth strategies.
  • Provide event management for UK company launches, trade missions, exhibitions, and conferences, as well as, other internal and external DIT events
  • Contribute to planning and logistics for VIP visits including senior UK Government officials.
  • Track, evaluate and report on outcomes of activities.  Maintain accurate and up to date records and reporting in data management platforms.
  • Contribute to the corporate agenda of the British Consulate and the whole UK Government Australian network.
