Border Force (BF) Brussels is responsible for managing the border controls for passengers travelling from Belgium to the UK. We are currently looking for a  Chief of Staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the head of Eurostar operations in Belgium & Netherlands . The position holder will also act as recruitment manager for Eurostar command, responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships and investigate complaints.

Roles and responsibilities:

Accommodation & onboarding:

  • Relationship manager for all accommodation & onboarding related external contacts.  Direct responsibility for managing BF procured short term accommodation contracts in Rotterdam & Amsterdam.

Recruitment:

  • Standing Chair for Long-term Officer Recruitments & Short-term trawl & overseeing onboarding.  

Business continuity:

  • Ownership for all regular operational and statistical returns, including reviewing business continuity plans, contingency planning and Port absconder guidance. 
  • Port Operational Assurance lead. Investigate complaints.
  • Oversees the admin teams, manage cleaning contract. Management of fault reporting process, assurance on progression of works and work orders. Travel Package management. Manages relationship with Pass management offices.
  • Supervise the locally nominated Health & Safety Officers.
  • Supervise the Port security team.
  • Oversight of local budget.

 

Project Management:

  • Project manager for small & medium projects. Runs project management office for whole Eurostar command.

 

Stakeholder management:

  • Confidently engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, including excellent writing skills (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*)
  • Practical spoken and written French and/or Dutch
  • The ability to engage constructively at a high level with external stakeholders including managing difficult negotiations and conversations
  • Familiarity with recruitment campaigns
  • Attention to detail and strong organisation/planning skills

    

  • Familiarity and confidence around the recruitment process within the Home Office
  • Understanding of BF & Home Office operational priorities
  • Knowledge of Home Office systems

This is a full-time permanent contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. 

The monthly gross salary for this position is € 6041.27 (for a full time job), HEO level. In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13th month, luncheon vouchers, pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.

Passport: jobholder will be expected to be in possession of a passport due to the possibility that they may be asked to undertake business travel.

Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
