Main purpose of job:

Organise the logistical arrangements for inward visits by VIP visitors and delegations. Act as Deputy IT Support Officer. Provide clerical and PA support to the Political Counsellor.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

This is a varied job which will suit someone looking to play an active role at the High Commission. The post holder must have well developed interpersonal skills and be able to work unsupervised. The job can be challenging at times, but it can also be very rewarding. Pakistan receives considerable interest from London and we regularly receive visit requests. Some notable visits over the last 12 months have been the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Secretary of State for Development. We currently have a number of other VIP visits planned for 2020.

  • As Visits Officer you will, together with the Head of Visits, be responsible for the logistical planning of inward VIP visits. This will include submitting Notes Verbale to the MFA, making hotel/transport bookings and oversee the programme as it develops. You will liaise closely with the policy lead officer for each visit, keeping them up to date with developments. The successful candidate will need to be able to work under pressure, especially in the immediate run up to the programme. An ability to persevere and work through problems is essential. There will be scope on occasions to accompany the VIP delegation which may include places outside of Islamabad.
  • As IT Support Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the IT systems and accounts for UK staff. This will include acting as first line support for major incidents. No specific technical experience is required as the Help Desk in the UK will provide full support and are usually able to rectify most problems remotely.
  • The successful candidate will also provide clerical support to the Political Counsellor, including diary management, expense claims, transport bookings and arranging meeting requests. You will be the Political Counsellor’s main point of contact between MFA and the High Commission for routine enquiries.

A degree of flexibility to the role is required as post will currently undergoing a major refresh of all its IT systems. This is an ongoing process and we are currently approaching Phase 3 of a 3-phase rollout which is due to complete by mid-2020.

Salary Details:  

For BHC candidates, the Local BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. 

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be ­­­­­­PKR 213,322 per month plus 80,000 security allowance minus 17,123 per month.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed for this post is Official Sensitive. Due to the security requirements of the position applicants should be British, US, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian or EU national who have spent at least two of the last five years in their home countries.
