Background
The British Consulate-General (BCG) in Miami offers 1 (one) unpaid internship per semester so students have the opportunity to gain work experience within a diplomatic mission, specifically within the Political, Press & Public Affairs (PPPA) section.
British Consulate-General Miami is the United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission responsible for Florida and the Caribbean including Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the British Overseas Territories.
The PPPA team handles all communications and public diplomacy activities of the Consulate and leads on local engagement with political institutions and community leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support & Job Shadow the organisation of events and visit programmes for official delegations, with the option to support staff with official evening events.
Monitor local, regional and national print and online media to identify articles relevant to Consulate areas of interest.
Conduct background research for briefs and bios on organisations and their personnel, topical issues, and events.
Help organise business contacts and manage/update contact database.
Understand and help respond to requests for information on the UK.
This program offers internships for 15-25 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. These are unpaid internships, for college credit only, but the Embassy does provide a stipend of $100 per month for transportation costs. This internship will start on 13 January 2020 and end on 10 April 2020.
Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Document. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance. Successful applicants will need to provide confirmation that they will be earning college credit as part of this internship.
