View Vacancy - Consular Officer - Consular
Main purpose of job:
- The successful candidate will be expected to deliver professional and efficient consular services to British Nationals and other qualifying persons in Panama: including Emergency Travel Documents and notary services, as well as working on consular cases, such as hospitalisations, deaths, detentions, victims of crime and cases of mental health. The main purpose of the role is to ensure delivery of professional and high quality services in line with FCO guidance.
- The Pro Consul, will act as the first point of contact for consular customers, often working independently. The Pro Consul, reporting to the Vice Consul, will also be required to work with senior management at post
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
Assistance work, including crisis:- Provide consular advice and assistance to British Nationals and other qualifying persons with a particular emphasis on those deemed to be vulnerable.
- Issue Emergency Travel Documents and required Notarial and Documentary Services according to guidance.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on each of our prisoner's cases following up with authorities.
- Receive and process payments from customers. Review and complete monthly budget sheets for consular fees and credit card payments;
- Provide local support to Embassy activities as required.
Outreach:
- Help to establish and maintain a network of key contacts, such as government agencies, NGOs, other Embassies, etc;
- Assist Vice Consul with the Consular response to World Youth Day;
- Occasional travel for outreach across Panama City and the rest of the country
Crisis
Crisis Management / Webpage Management - Assist Vice Consul in up-dating CMP with accurate staff details, up-to-date service providers. Ensure Embassy web master has the most up-to-date information for British Nationals in Panama each month
Essential on arrival:
- Excellent organisation, prioritisation and communication skills
- Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills who has the ability to learn quickly.
- Able to prioritise in a fast-paced work environment, working largely unsupervised, delivering to deadlines and agreed targets.
- Have excellent communication skills relating to relationship building both internally and externally to the British Embassy.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Computer literate, working with Microsoft Windows and able to manage information effectively with available computer systems.
- Casework experience/dealing with vulnerable people.
- Experience working in the government sector or with NGOs.
- Good understanding of the Panamanian government institutions and legal system.
Level of language required: Fluent in English and Spanish
**This is a 14 week position**
2-week hand over period with person that will be covering for.
The nature of the job may include tasks that some may find distressing, such as prison, hospital and morgue visits. The succesful applicant will need to have a high level of resilience to trauma.
