Our China Office has a successful history of building partnerships with Chinese research and innovation funders to negotiate joint projects for UK and Chinese collaboration. We provide high quality advice to the UK on how to engage with China and we use our networks to help projects we fund to reach policymakers and businesses while communicating the value of international collaboration in science and innovation.


UKRI China is recruiting to support our work supporting university-business collaboration and promoting innovation and economic growth based on excellent science. This person will ideally have a background in building collaborations between universities and businesses, supporting businesses to access knowledge or promoting economic growth through science and research.

The role will be for an initial period of 2 years and will have responsibility for:


  • Supporting engagement between academic research and industry, for example facilitating academic-industry collaboration, managing industrial research and development projects, brokering business-university partnerships
  • Working closely with our programme managers to identify opportunities to put the science we fund in to commercial or policy practice, and working with our communications manager to ensure Chinese stakeholders understand the value of UK-China cooperation
  • Delivering reports on innovation funding mechanisms of our partner agencies, and activities of comparator countries, to help improve UKRI’s position in China
  • Contributing to analysis of UKRI portfolio of projects, supporting internal office processes and data collection
  • Prepare briefing material relating to UKRI China projects and activities including providing input to annual reporting processes
  • Supporting on developing a provincial engagement strategy to expand our range of provincial partners

  • Experience of working to promote innovation, knowledge exchange or technology transfer in either a business or HEI environment
  • Experience in building partnerships across multiple organisations to deliver joint projects
  • Experience of working for or in partnership with Chinese government agencies
  • Excellent information gathering and report writing skills, able to present accurate research and analysis in a range of formats
  • Ability to work independently and experience of project planning and project management
  • Excellent team worker and experience liaising and communicating across multiple teams and organisations
  • Knowledge of UK and/or Chinese research and innovation context, or national government strengths and priorities
  • Previous experience of working for a research funding, innovation or tech transfer organisation
  • Experience of organising events at a range of scales
  • Experience of remote working

This job will require travel within China and occasional travel to the UK.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is CNY 28,769/ month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 37,488/month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata.

Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
