Main purpose of job:
The role will see you working with the Investment team supporting Australian Companies in to the UK.
Specifically, you will support on market research, business set-up assistance, sector information and expansion support to high-growth businesses in Australia.
The job holder will report to the Senior Manager, Business Relations and form part of a wider UK network at the British Consulate and the British High Commission.
Roles and responsibilities:
This exciting and engaging role will work with the Investment team supporting leading Australian companies seeking to expand into the UK.
You will work to support teams based in Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland, and with the wider network on an adhoc basis. This will be achieved through account management, project management, relationship management, and administration of the Department’s data needs.
The role requires collaboration through a virtual team structure in Australia and New Zealand with UK-based sector team colleagues, UK regional team colleagues, and a centralised investment services team – who each play a supporting role to you by providing introductions, economic data and research.
The jobholder will work with the Senior Manager, Business Relations, to support the delivery of the Investment Team’s business plan. The role will also require event planning, management and attendance, as well as relationship building at industry forums, and will require the ability to communicate effectively. An ability to network, establish strong relationships within the Australian business community, and other industry multipliers to actively support and leverage outcomes will be viewed favourably.
The role may include elements of travel to support teams at various posts and for learning and development.
The role will include some strategic support and assistance to the broader DIT team, the British Consulate staff at Post and the wider Australia network.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
- A minimum of one years’ work experience in business, ideally in an international & B2B context, business development or market research.
- Strong inter-personal, networking, presentation and communication skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Good knowledge of the Australian business environment
- Ability to deliver to ambitious targets and outcomes
- Proactive and enthusiastic with a self-starter mind-set
- Some knowledge of the UK’s business environment, and some regional centres of the UK.
- Some knowledge of the processes involved in overseas company expansions (foreign direct investment)
- Eye for detail and event management.
Salary is at AUD 64,347 per annum (paid out monthly), plus 11% superannuation.
Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.
Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.
A security check (and clearance) may be required prior to employment.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General and its Consulates is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
