The British Embassy in Poland is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Communications Officer – Policy & Trade, to support the delivery of the Embassy’s objectives in Poland through high quality, engaging and influencing public communications.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Working together with the Embassy’s BIC, EEE and DIT sections on the public communications strategy; 
  • Working closely with Head of BIC and Head of Comms in drafting the Embassy’s overarching public communications strategy;
  • Implementing the overarching communications strategy, including through designing and running bilateral, policy and trade focussed campaigns;
  • Working closely with Head of Comms in advising on the content of bilateral, policy and trade focussed communications and on the relevant media channels to use and its placement;
  • Creating influencing bilateral, policy and trade focussed campaign content, including drafting speeches, articles, and other forms as required;
  • Point of contact for FCO global campaigns and ensuring that they are integrated in the Embassy’s overarching communications strategy; 
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the Embassy’s public communications and FCO global campaigns and advising Head of BIC section and Comms on lessons learnt;
  • Updating the Embassy’s core script, including the drafting of bilateral, trade and policy press lines;
  • Recruiting and managing the Comms Team Intern;
  • Cooperating with information providers, including administrating budget and invoices;
  • Covering for other Comms Officers when required as well as performing any other tasks as required;
  • Working as an integral part of Bilateral, Policy and DIT Sections.
  • Proficient English and Polish (spoken and written);
  • Bachelor degree or higher in a related field;
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and highly creative team player with a proven passion for public communications;
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and the ability to assess and initiate activities independently;
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering a demanding workload as well as responding flexibly to changing priorities;
  • Demonstrable experience of developing successful public communication campaigns;
  • Proven track record of designing, running and evaluating successful public communication campaigns;
  • Excellent writing ability in both English and Polish as well as experience of drafting engaging, influencing speeches, articles and other forms;
  • Strong understanding of the UK and Polish media environment and network of contacts;
  • Strong IT skills in MS Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint;
  • Experience of working with UK Government, especially knowledge of UK policy and trade priorities;
  • Experience working with the OASIS campaign model; 
  • Knowledge of and experience working with digital media;
  • Experience with budget and invoice administration.

This is a full-time position of 5 days, for a two years fixed term contract which may be extended by mutual agreement.

Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by the local law. Please be aware that the British Embassy in Warsaw will not be able to cover any costs connected with relocation.

The successful candidate will be subject to the Polish references check and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months.

Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 20 or 26 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Polish / UK public holidays per year.

Candidates must have pre-existing right to live and work in Poland for the duration of the job offer in order to apply. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
