The British Embassy in Moscow is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Communications Officer to provide UK in Russia network with excellent news monitoring & analysis services as well as FCO teams in London and wider contacts. Produce analytical reports on traditional media in Russia and be able to report on current social media trends and conversations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality written daily summaries on the Russian press and carry out research demands for the political team, FCO teams in London, Cabinet Office, and other parties;
  • Produce weekly analytical reports on current trends in Russian politics, culture and society;
  • Spot breaking news throughout the day and alert relevant members of the team quickly;
  • Maintain relationship with Russian media and advise Head of Communications on the media scene;
  • Manage media contacts database;
  • Maintain distribution lists for press releases and distribute Embassy press rereleases to the British and Russian correspondents;
  • Manage the Embassy newspapers, magazines, periodical and digital subscription and monitor the section’s subscriptions budget;
  • Compile and distribute electronic news and information sources, including Tass, Interfax feeds, BBC Monitoring, etc.;
  • Distribute hard copy newspaper and periodical to Embassy colleague;
  • Handle telephone and online enquiries from media and wider public;
  • Cover for absences of Deputy Head of Communications regarding media relations;
  • Cover for New Media Manager regarding printing, copying, faxing, binding materials, desktop publishing needs for the team – as required;
  • Cover for Internal Communications Manager dealing with public enquiries received via Embassy’s public enquiries e-mail inbox;
  • Ad-hoc management of social media when required;
  • Stationary management, updating Team’s phone cascade and absence calendar;
  • Other duties as deemed operationally by the Head of Section.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and Russian;
  • Must be very familiar with the Russian news environment;
  • Ability to quickly organise and summarise large data into concise and meaningful reports;
  • Very good face-to-face communications skills;
  • IT skills – advanced;
  • Ability and desire to engage with other colleagues across the Network including senior management

This is a full-time, permanent position, for 5 working days, 35 hours net per week. Monday to Friday from 07:30 until 15:30.

The monthly salary for this position is Rub 60,432 gross, A2 (L) level, paid 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
