Main purpose of job:

Manage the Hyderabad team and oversee SDI’s operations in South India.

TAE and GBS Sector Head for SDI India. 

Secure significant export trade and inward investment results by supporting Scottish companies export to India and by attracting inward investment projects to Scotland. This role requires knowledge of the sector and existing contacts/networks within the industry. 


  • Develop and manage the performance of the Hyderabad team
  • Deliver SDI’s trade and investment objectives and activities in South India.

  • TAE and GBS Sector Head for SDI India.  TAE and GBS are priority sectors for SDI and the role will entail:
    • Using the sales process to develop a strong portfolio of inward investment projects
    • Supporting Scottish companies in their internationalisation activities
    • Maintaining a strong network with key partners and trade associations
    • Engaging with sector colleagues and the Asia management team to contribute to the development of the sub-sector, sub-geography planning and delivery of the TAE and GBS operating plans

This will result in the achievement of:


  • More inward investment projects coming to Scotland by driving a pipeline of new projects and supporting the growth of existing investors
  • More Scottish companies exporting to India and more exports from those already in the market, by delivering highly differentiated services to growth companies

  • The job holder will achieve the successful delivery of a range of stakeholder missions and visits to and from the market. Lead and support on operational planning, activity and delivery of ministerial and senior official visits to India, as well as the planning and prioritisation of inward delegation visits from India to Scotland.

 


  • Staff development is critical and the post holder will achieve the realisation of the potential of staff in Hyderabad through the performance management process, coaching and team building activities.

The job holder will have to ensure best practice use of CRM and adhere to compliance with BDHC and SE policies on health & safety and travel & expenses.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Line management of 1 resource and the budget of the Hyderabad office.



  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in the TAE or GBS sectors
  • Strong awareness of the Indian TAE and GBS industry and existing networks in the industry
  • Demonstrate a resonant leadership approach (emotional intelligence and cultural awareness)
  • Demonstrable high level influencing, representing, and political skills, combined with a thorough understanding of economic development. This will include management experience and a track record of significant business development within a sales related environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with key stakeholders at a variety of levels, including the most senior decision makers.
  • Ability to travel throughout India
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with a high level of confidence and competence in influencing at a senior level
  • Ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines in a highly challenging and demanding environment.
  • Experience in the TAE and GBS industry
  • An excellent understanding of economic development in a global context
  • Previous experience of complex project management
