View Vacancy - BK - Pro Consul, A2 (maternity cover) - Internal vacancy
The British Embassy in Bangkok is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, economic, Visa and Consular interests overseas. We are currently looking to recruit a Pro Consul, who will be on a temporary seven (7) months maternity cover contract, to join our dynamic team.
The main purpose of the job is to lead in providing the public with the full range of notarial and documentary services in line with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) consular strategy, consular guidance and customer charter, business targets and local procedures.
The Jobholder is expected to -
- Provide a full range of Notarial and Documentary services
To manage own counter utilising the appointment system (CABS).
Responsible and accountable for financial transactions at counter.
To maintain accurate records and data input onto FCO system.
Process all mandatory checks.
Keep up to date with changing procedures and guidance.
To provide a high standard of customer service.
- Act as signatory when required
Signatory for all Notarial and Documentary services when required ensuring all services are provided to the public efficiently, accurately and in line with FCO guidance.
- Lead on customer enquiries and escalations
To respond to written consular enquiries within published timescales.
To monitor and provide monthly statistics on consular enquiries to Vice Consul.
- Issue and approve Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs).
Process applications for ETDs, checking eligibility of applicants and ensuring all mandatory checks are completed according to internal guidance. Occasionally approve ETD applications
- Update the Rate of exchange
Liaise with accountant and Vice Consul to overseee the rate of exchange
Update fee table for department as required
Update Thailand Notarial pages on Gov.uk
- Work within the wider consular team on assistance work, project work, outreach programmes, annual returns, updating contact lists etc. as agreed with line manager.
- Work with the Prevention Team to design and implement pro-active communications campaigns to help prevent British nationals needing consular support.
- Provide support to the Vice Consul and leave cover.
- Analytical with a strong attention to detail and the ability to complete timely and accurate written information in English
- Experience working under pressure within a team, and an ability to plan and prioritise competing demands effectively
- An ability to follow procedures and guidelines in making judgements and solving problems
- A confident person with advanced listening and communication skills
- Approachable, empathetic with enhanced customer care skills,
- An ability to deal sensitively with difficult situations and people in distress
- Good self management and organisational skills with an ability to plan and prioritise effectively with competing workload under pressure
- IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn FCO systems.
Language Requirements
For candidates with English as a second language, certification at IELTS (or equivalent) level 7 minimum or higher within the last 2 years is required. All skill areas (Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading) must be IELTS score 6.5 or higher.
- Fluent written and verbal proficiency in Thai language
- Experience of designing and/or managing communications and outreach campaigns.
- Experience of living in or understanding of the UK
- Previous consular or comparable experience
This vacancy is for British Embassy Bangkok internal candidates (and spouse or partner of an employee, agency staff currently employed temporarily in UKVI / embassy) only.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, a leave entitlement, Health Insurance and full training. The job is linked to the British Embassy’s Local Staff A2 (L) grade. For those not liable to tax, the salary will be abated.
