Main purpose of job:

Manage all digital communications of the UK in South Africa: The Digital Communication Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Post website and other agreed digital platforms are central to delivery of the mission’s goals and objectives through digital campaigns and activities.

 Manage internal digital communications including SharePoint and crisis SMS service

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

External Communication

  • Manage the High Commission website, developing content to a high standard
  • Design and deliver web campaigns to achieve the High Commission's objectives, including using interactive web spaces
  • Establish and maintain systems to report and evaluate the digital activity and campaigns.
  • Develop excellent working relationships with colleagues at all levels across the UK in South Africa network who provide website content, with external partners and with HUB who maintain the centralised content management system and templates
  • Backup the  photographer and record videos of events for use on the website / the FCO's YouTube and Flickr channels
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the building and development of outstanding digital platforms and any other digital technology required to deliver our messages and achieve our outcomes.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of High Commission-wide public diplomacy projects and advise colleagues on the best use of online communications.
  • Create digital content that is engaging, topical/up-to-date and relevant and supports the objectives, brand and values of the mission
  • Keep up to date with current digital trends and developments and ensure we remain timely and current in our use of digital media.

Internal Communication 

  • Create and maintain the crisis database up to date, issuing messages in crisis situations
  • Offer SharePoint support to all users in South Africa
  • Compile and Issue This Week
  • Degree preferably in IT and/or Communications
  • Qualification in SharePoint administration
  • Strong writing, editing experience, able to identify stories and write for the web
  • Experience running digital campaigns using the OASIS model
  • Web analytics tools e.g. Google Analytics and use of search engine optimisation techniques
  • Experience of creating digital graphics e.g. Photoshop skills
  • Web design skills, including HTML and CSS
  • Experience in managing social media networks for an organisation (Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook)
  • Experience managing an organisational Website
  • Video editing experience
  • Photography
