View Vacancy - Department for International Trade Spring Internship 2018
An educational opportunity to learn from a team focused on fostering transatlantic business relations between the US and its top economic partner in Europe. Applications are invited for a part-time internship at the British Consulate-General, Chicago. A $100/month stipend is provided for transportation.
Summary:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British Government's international economic development agency. DIT is charged with transatlantic trade development between the US and the UK and with assisting American companies looking to invest in the UK (please see here).
Main Functions:
• Being a member of a team that helps UK companies with the development of their US market entry strategy and supports UK companies already active in the US;
• Observing Trade and Investment Officers and Associates who help US companies looking to expand in the UK and support US companies already active in the UK;
• Shadowing DIT staff while they work on the following projects: organizing trade missions, compiling visit programs for diplomats, planning company meetings, facilitating introductions and producing and managing networking events;
• Attending DIT office meetings, receptions, conferences, and other events;
• Having the opportunity to meet and speak to high level UK and US company representatives and public officials;
• Learning about how DIT works across the following sectors: Advanced Engineering, Energy & Environment, Financial Services, Information Communication Technologies, Life Sciences, and Food, Drink & Retail;
- Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, preferably in science or international relations, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required.
- Interest in the UK and US business environment;
- An understanding of both private and public sector operations;
- Effective communication skills;
- Good team member attitude;
- Motivated individual who enjoys professional networking.
Under US State requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Documents. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
