Driver / Messenger

The British High Commission in Singapore is part of a worldwide network of 230 United Kingdom overseas missions, representing British security, prosperity and consular interests abroad. We are currently looking to recruit a Driver. This will one of two Drivers in the team, both of them work closely with the Transport Manager.

  1. Drive the Flag car and other pool cars for all members of staff including the High Commissioner (these responsibilities to be rotated on a monthly basis). Provide reliable, safe and well planned services with a focus on customer service.  Daily review of transport bookings with the Transport Manager to support the strict adherence of the Transport Policy.
  2. Provide driving support for visitors to the British High Commission including being actively involved in the planning of routes, liaising with key visit stakeholders and being able to work in fast paced and ambiguous conditions during the visit.
  3. Daily disinfection & sanitising of all vehicles to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  4. Weekly cleaning of all British High Commission cars, including additional cleaning prior to major visits.
  5. Sending vehicles for timely and regular servicing & LTA inspections as required, with escalations to the Transport Manager.  Monitoring of deadlines for Road Tax and Insurance payments including the provision of quotations to the Transport Manager.
  6. Processing all required payments and receipts for ERP and Shell cards in consultation on a weekly basis.
  7. Support the Transport Manager and Corporate Services Manager, to which this role reports, with any driving related policy changes and feed into decisions on car purchases
  • Must have a valid (Class 3) Singapore driving license with no points deducted & no serious traffic offences in the past 12 months
  • Excellent knowledge of the road network and traffic system in Singapore
  • Excellent knowledge of the Highway Code & all relevant traffic laws in Singapore
  • Previous experience as a limousine or private driver
  • Must be smartly presented
  • Physically Fit
  • Able to work under pressure and with staff of all levels
  • Must have a flexible approach to working hours as overtime and work on weekends are necessary occasionally
  • Previous experience in an Embassy or Government environment
  • Previous experience driving VIPs

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary of SGD 2,053 per month and annual wage supplement [an additional 2 months’ salary paid out in December each year], 23-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata and insurance plan.

Due to the Government of Singapore’s measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including safe distancing and travel restrictions, we are only able to accept applications from those currently resident in Singapore.  The successful applicant will likely be required to work from home until safe distancing measures are relaxed.

Normal working hours are 44 per week, 7.30am to 5.15pm from Monday to Friday, but the role requires occasional evening and weekend attendance depending on operational requirements. Overtime rates are paid for any hours in excess of 44 per week.
