Main purpose of job:

The Trade Team leads on the UK-Pakistan bilateral trade relationship, providing analysis, direction and reporting, as well as engaging with key stakeholders in business, the UK government and the Federal and Provincial Government of Pakistan. The job holder will need to be flexible in responding to changes in scope and priorities of the trade policy team.

As a key member of the British High Commission’s Trade Team you will help deliver progress in the UK-Pakistan bilateral trade relationship. The focus will be on supporting UK exporters to dramatically grow the volume of trade. This will likely be most focused on healthcare and life sciences, as well as other trade sectors that are predominantly based in Punjab. This will be through strategic export campaigns (including tackling market access barriers – see below), pipeline development and by supporting UK companies to translate these opportunities into export deals and partnerships/collaborations.

This will also include working across the UK Government’s network in Pakistan to support the removal of market access barriers in key sectors; providing analysis and reporting on key developments that inform policy development.

Experience and knowledge of the textile, healthcare and life sciences sectors are desired.   For the purposes of our trade promotion work, we define healthcare as including healthcare services provision (including both public and private), diagnostics and broader healthcare infrastructure. Life sciences includes pharma, bio-tech and medical technology. You will bring with you an in-depth knowledge of these sectors and use this to build a strategy.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • Lead on specific sector work-streams, most likely healthcare and textiles. This work will require you to collaborate with colleagues across the UK Government’s Pakistan Network, colleagues in London, the Department for International Trade hub in Dubai, and businesses in order to promote UK services and partnerships.
  • Analyse and understand market access barriers in the sector;
  • Develop and deliver an engagement strategies to progress the issue with Government of Pakistan;
  • Promote UK Healthcare services to and partnerships, looking particularly at pharmaceuticals (and currently, PPE due to the coronavirus pandemic)
  • Provide support in other areas of trade that have a particular focus in Lahore and the wider Punjab region, working with local stakeholders, such as the Chambers of Commerce.
  • Support visitors from the British High Commission, the British Deputy High Commission, and other trade delegations.
  • Candidate should have 5-7 years of relevant work experience, ideally with exposure to the textile and/or healthcare sectors
  • Prior experience in engaging with senior business/ government stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a good track record as a team player
  • Excellent ability to deliver on tight deadlines and turn around requests efficiently
  • Candidate should be proactive, a self-starter and have the ability to adapt to changes.
  • Experience in interacting with a variety of stakeholders and working in a multi-cultural environment
  • A strong understanding of Government of Pakistan’s policy making structures/environment
  • Understanding of Pakistan trade policy.

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be ­­­­­­PKR 246,648.
