The UK Mission to the United Nations in Geneva is part of a world-wide network, representing British interests overseas and is looking for a PA to the Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organisations and to the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament.

Geneva is a hub of multilateral diplomacy, home to leading international agencies, think-tanks and non-governmental organisations, offering substantive opportunities to engage, influence and shape foreign policy.

This is an exciting, intellectually stimulating and challenging role at the UK Mission, offering an opportunity to work across a range of policy issues, working directly with the Ambassador, including on: human rights, global health, refugees and migration, trade, digital policy, disarmament and UN reform.

The main purpose is to provide high-quality administrative support to the Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN and Other International Organisations, and to the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament.

The role requires an extremely organised person, with excellent time-management skills and attention to detail, who is able to deal confidently with senior customers. The job-holder will need to be a good communicator, ideally with some French, comfortable handling multiple tasks and able to deliver to a high standard, sometimes under time pressure.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

PA to the Deputy Permanent Representative (60%)

Duties will include:

  • Communicating with internal and external contacts (by phone and email).
  • Managing the DPR’s diary, arranging appointments and meetings.
  • Welcoming visitors to the Mission.
  • Organising social events.
  • Assisting with travel arrangements.
  • Keeping records of expenditure.

PA to the Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament (40%)

Duties will include:

  • Managing the diary, arranging appointments and meetings.
  • Organising social events.
  • Native English speaker, ideally with some French.
  • IT skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus.
  • A team player, able to work with contacts and colleagues at all levels.
  • Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive, with a proven track record of delivering results to high standards, within tight deadlines.
  • Experience of work in the multilateral environment is advantageous.

This is a part-time position, initially on a two year fixed-term contract, for 5 working days (24 hours per week) per week, at A1 level.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 3 months probation period.

Staff recruited locally by the UK Mission for the United Nations in Geneva are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Swiss employment law.
