Economic and Prosperity

The British Embassy in Brasilia invites applications from students in at least their 3rd semester for the above part-time position.

This is a challenging and rewarding position within the Trade and Economics team. The intern will provide support to the Trade and Economics team and wider Prosperity Group, including administrative support as well as analytical and data support on economic issues.

This is a great opportunity to be part of an international team that contributes to a high profile agenda on Trade and Economics.

The successful candidate will be involved in: 

Economic agenda (70%)

  • Conducting research and providing support for analysis of significant macroeconomic issues in Brazil with a particular focus on research;
  • Gathering qualitative and quantitative economic data, and presenting it in written and graphic format;
  • Writing regular economic reports about the main macroeconomic developments in Brazil;
  • Researching and writing about the latest developments on the economic reform agenda;
  • Compiling and updating a reference database of key facts and figures about the Brazilian economy;
  • Providing support on achieving UK’s wider economic objectives in Brazil.

Team support (30%)

  • Administration of team budgets across Prosperity cone;
  • Updating the team’s stakeholder map;
  • Scheduling meetings, organising travel, events and visits, and liaising with key stakeholders (internally and externally).
  • Ongoing undergraduate studies in Economics;
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills in both English and Portuguese;
  • Excellent written and computer skills, including Excel (including both spreadsheet and graphical representation functions).
  • Good understanding of the Brazilian economy and Brazil’s economic reform agenda;
  • Confidence in conducting original economic analysis;
  • Familiarity with public economic/trade databases;
  • Administrative skills, for example, organising meetings, managing budgets, writing readouts.
