View Vacancy - Residence and Events Manager (PRT22.606)
The Embassy is looking to recruit a Residence and Events Manager for temporary maternity cover for a period approximately through to September 2024. The Ambassador’s Residence (the Residence) serves three overlapping functions: it is home to the British Ambassador in Portugal; is used for representational activity; and it provides accommodation for official visitors. It supports the work of the British Diplomatic Network in Portugal in furthering UK government interests and policy objectives, building and maintaining a network of senior and influential contacts and showcasing the UK. It is used to host a wide range of events for top level government politicians, business people, cultural leaders and others, delivering in a wide range of formats from small dinners through to an annual reception with hundreds of guests. The Residence Manager has overall responsibility for ensuring that the Residence and its garden are maintained, and that the events and services it provides to the Ambassador, guests and visitors are delivered to the highest possible standard. The successful candidate will lead and supervise a small but highly capable team of Residence staff, and work closely with the Ambassador, family and with other colleagues in Embassy teams. This is a demanding but rewarding position that requires excellent inter-personal and organisation skills, great team work and strong customer focus.

This is a fixed-term full-time contract as a maternity leave cover through till September 2024 (35 hours net per week) (expected duration of 21 months) subject to a 30 day probation period.
The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of € 27,861.82 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments; plus a monthly meal allowance of €134.00. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, he / she will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
