Exciting and excellent opportunities for three experienced and highly-motivated individuals to join the innovative UK Israel Tech Hub (UKITH).

The British Embassy is recruiting three (3) Sector Managers, each leading the UKITH’s work in their Tech sector – 

  • Clean Growth - focusing on areas such as Energy, Mobility, Industry 4.0, and Agtech.
  • Fintech & Cyber - connect Israeli Fintech & Cyber Tech companies to UK stakeholders primarily from banking and the insurance industries 
  • Healthcare Innovation - including Digital Health, Biotech, Pharma, MedTech and other areas.

The three positions have similar responsibilities and required qualifications.

Each Sector Manager will assume primary responsibility for promoting UK – Israel collaboration through commercial partnerships, R&D collaboration, and sharing of policy and best practice in their sector (Clean Growth; Fintech & Cyber; Healthcare Innovation).  Each Sector Manager will be responsible for identifying strategic opportunities and contacts, initiating and organising activities and platforms for collaboration, and delivering results for mutually beneficial links between Israeli technology companies and UK Stakeholders in their sector.

The Sector Managers will work as part of a team of 10 including counterparts in the UK and Israel to promote commercial outcomes. Both positions are full-time positions, reporting to the Director of the UK Israel Tech Hub. This job is based in Tel Aviv.

About the UK Israel Tech Hub

UKITH helps drive economic growth in both countries by helping British and Israeli companies partner in technology and innovation. The goal is to create partnerships in which British companies help Israeli innovation go global, and Israeli innovation gives British companies a global competitive edge.

UKITH was launched in October 2011 at the British Embassy Israel following an agreement between Prime Ministers Cameron and Netanyahu to build a UK-Israel partnership in technology. The Hub is a high-profile successful pilot for the UK government aimed at developing new methods of commercial diplomacy and prides itself on becoming a resident expert on the Israeli market for the benefit of UK companies seeking innovation.

To date, the Hub has facilitated over 200 innovation partnerships worth over GBP 1B to the UK economy.


About the role


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Hub’s work in the particular sector (Clean Growth; Fintech & Cyber; Healthcare Innovation), delivering on an ambitious strategy and further developing it, identifying new strategic partnerships and pursuing business opportunities between British and Israeli companies and innovators in the field.
  • Initiate, plan and execute activities to facilitate business collaboration and to raise awareness of opportunities. These include business delegations, conferences and networking events, attracting the best industry players and opinion leaders. Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partner organisations on these activities.
  • Manage the particular sector’s annual budget. Create an annual forecast, track and report financial activity throughout the year.
  • Maintain sector expertise and a network of contacts with relevant decision makers, companies, entrepreneurs, experts and investors in Israel and the UK.  Ability to open doors, understand business needs, identify opportunities for collaboration and attract partners for delivery.
  • Facilitate introductions and follow up to convert leads and opportunities into concrete business outcomes. Track, monitor and report these in a timely way. 
  • Represent the Hub and the UK – Israel tech partnership publicly and in writing, and convincingly present the opportunities for collaboration via the Hub.

Resources managed: Each Sector Manager will manage their sector’s annual budget.


Key competencies required:

  • Collaborating and Partnering - People skilled in this area create and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of people within and outside the Civil Service to help get business done.
  • Achieving Commercial Outcomes - Having a commercial, financial and sustainable mind-set to ensure all activities and services are delivering benefit and working to stimulate economic growth. Identifying economic, market and customer issues and using these to promote innovative business models, commercial partnerships and agreements to deliver greatest value
  • Leading and Communicating - Effectiveness in this area is about leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm.
  • Seeing the Big Picture - Seeing the big picture is about having an in-depth understanding and knowledge of how your role fits with and supports organisational objectives and the wider public needs.
  • BA, preferably in business or technology fields, or demonstrated research capabilities
  • At least three (3) years of experience working in business development, consulting, project management, or similar roles. 
  • Excellent English Language skills, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely. Basic Hebrew (conversational) skills.
  • An acquaintance with the tech / entrepreneurship landscape in Israel
  • International experience from living/ working/ studying overseas or working in foreign relations.
  • Open and clear communicator with strong presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Strong organisational skills with a track record of success and demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Excellent networking skills including across cultures
  • Highly motivated, passionate about innovation and technology
  • Enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team – a “start-up within government”
  • Strong business acumen. A real people’s person, charismatic and impressionable
  • Ability to work creatively and strategically. Able to work independently whilst being high contributor in a team environment.
  • MBA or MA in relevant fields
  • Knowledge of the particular Israeli tech sector: (Clean Growth Sector Manager with focus on Energy/Mobility/Industry 4.0/Agtech; Fintech & Cyber Sector Manager with focus on Fintech/Cyber/Insurtech; Healthcare Innovation with focus on Digital Health/Biotech/Pharma/MedTech)
  • Bringing a personal business network from Israel and/or from the UK 
  • Experience in organising events
  • Management of budget and complex projects in a metrics driven environment
  • Business knowledge of the UK 
  • Native in Google Docs, Salesforce, any other project management tools

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, the British Embassy will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance; and
  • Able to work legally in Israel.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 13,000 per month plus social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.

This position is offered on a Full Time, Permanent contract and the successful candidate will be on a four-month probationary period. 

Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30 for a total of 37.5 weekly.

Flexibility will be required, including occasional evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.
