Who we are:

The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs is known as the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). With Embassies and Consulates spread across the world, 8 years ago the FCDO created a HR Hub shared services to provide end-to-end employee HR life cycle services. Located at the British Embassy in Lisbon, the HR Hub works with 83 British Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in 50 Countries across Europe and Central Asia.

 

What we do:

We are the HR Regional Corporate Services Hub and we provide top notch HR Services including recruitment, pay and reward, talent and performance management and advise on everything HR related to our 50 countries. We support employees, line mangers and senior leadership teams with both operational and strategic issues and challenges.

 

What we are looking for:

The HR Hub Team is seeking an HR Intern to join our team for six months with a possible extension up to one year. This is a great opportunity to learn about different aspects of HR in an international environment. Your role will be to support the HR team with a range of activities including HR admin activities as part of a global change project to implement a new HR system. There is also the opportunity to learn about new cultures and changes across different countries.

We are looking for someone that is motivated to learn, a real team player, has a hands-on and collaborative approach towards work and knows how to prioritise tasks. English fluency is mandatory and Portuguese is a nice to have.


Roles and responsibilities

HR Advisory

  • Support Employee HR life cycle activities;
  • Update the HR system to reflect changes to employee data;
  • Keep databases updated, ensure relevant data capturing, recording and accuracy;
  • Manage the HR data for our countries including monthly reporting.

Recruitment

  • Support the recruitment team with queries from both line managers and candidates;
  • Arrange interviews;
  • Produce Recruitment metrics.

MI and P&B

  • Ensure database accuracy and produce reports;
  • Produce Excel tables, graphs and other outputs of KPI’s and metric reports;
  • Check data and prepare materials for presentations.

Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

  • Degree in either HR, Psychology, business administration or related areas; 
  • Excellent level of English is essential (both oral and written, minimum of B1 level for CEFR framework*)
  • Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills; 
  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with an extended team;
  • Manage time effectively under own direction and prioritise tasks; 
  • Customer focus approach; 
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.  

  • International experience, either by working or studying abroad.

This is a full-time, 6 months Internship contract for 5 working days, 35 hours net per week.

All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese Employment Law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
