The Technical Works section of the British Embassy in Baghdad is seeking an individual for the position of a Plumber, Grade – A1 (L).

 

Purpose of the job:

We require a highly skilled person in Plumbing with high workmanship quality but will also be expected to carry out all technical related jobs as needed. It is also necessary to have skills and good levels of customer service experience. The candidate will be a key member of the technical works section to maintain the embassy estate encompassing various offices and domestic properties in the Embassy compound and at leased properties off compound.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the swimming pool and the equipment in the swimming pool plant room and chemical dosing system.
  • Maintain hot water system including the electrical boilers and solar system.
  • Maintain water treatment system including the water treatment plant, UV systems and boreholes.
  • Maintain the sewage treatment plant including the maintenance of all sewage manholes and sewage pumps.
  • Installation of all types of plumbing accessories including wet rooms slide showers and all types of toilet seats.
  • Follow all the health and safety measures including the legionella disinfection and water tanks chlorination.
  • Works with other members of the TWG and assist where needed.

Essential:

  • Good communication skills in English and Arabic language
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a professional environment.
  • Valid Driving Licence in Iraq.
  • Technical diploma from government authority
  • Good organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience on swimming pools, water treatment systems and sewage treatment plants

Working Hours and Remuneration: 

The starting salary for the role is $ 1,341 payable 13 times per year. In addition a monthly allowance of US$300 for security is payable. The allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time. The British Embassy also runs a performance related pay scheme and supports training and development for all staff.

Normal working hours are Sunday - Wednesday 0800 – 1600 and Thursday 0800-1400. Due to the nature of the work, some flexibility on working hours will be required; time off in lieu will be arranged. The annual leave entitlement is 20 days plus up to 14 days public holidays [UK/Iraq]. Other benefits include the Embassy medical scheme (which also covers close dependents) and access to onsite facilities including a canteen. 

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 days probationary period.

  • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance;
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Iraq. It is for potential job applicants to ensure they have the necessary permit that allows them to reside and work in Iraq.
