DIT staff at the British Embassy in Nur-Sultan are part of a world-wide network representing British commercial interests overseas. They work alongside Foreign Office (FCO) colleagues who represent British political, economic and consular interests overseas. DIT Kazakhstan staff are also part of DIT’s Eastern Europe & Central Asia Network (EECAN) headed by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for the region based in Istanbul.

The British Embassy in Nur-Sultan is now looking to fill a Trade Officer vacancy, to cover maternity leave until 1 June 2021. The main focus of the job is to identify new opportunities to increase the UK’s trade with Kazakhstan, including in the financial services, healthcare and education sectors. The duties will also include a wide range of logistical support to the wider DIT team. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and maintain local contacts in relevant state and private sector authorities and industry.

The successful applicant will be proactive and able to absorb a wide range of information from different sources. He/she is expected to be confident and persuasive in dealing with stakeholders, be a self-starter with personal initiative and drive, strong inter-personal, team working and communication skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver DIT services, especially OMIS. To respond to market enquiries from British companies in the UK and those already established in Kazakhstan. Supply information on commercial opportunities;
  • Assist with planning and arranging commercial events, exhibitions and conference participation and VIP visits;
  • Assist with preparation of sector reports and summaries;
  • Deal with local enquiries;
  • Develop and maintain local and British contacts in Government and business and maintain contact database.



  • Fluent English and Russian (oral and written);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge and experience of business and official correspondence;
  • Working with customers;
  • Working in a team;
  • Previous administrative experience is essential.

  • Good spoken and written Kazakh
  • Familiarity with the UK and Kazakhstani government structures;
  • Experience of project management;
  • Experience of working in the commercial area.

This is a full-time, temporary position of five working days 36 hours net per week, excluding lunch hours, until 1 June 2021.

Salary will be USD 1,120.00 per calendar month (gross). A 13th month salary is payable at the end of the year. Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to 25 working days leave per calendar year at the beginning of service. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.

The Embassy provides medical insurance for employees and dependants.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kazakhstan is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service based on local Kazakhstan employment law.
