The British High Commission Port Moresby is part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)’s world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, military, economic, visa and consular interests overseas.
Reporting to the Post Security Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for driving the High Commissioner/Deputy High Commissioner to and from the office and to appointments during the day. The High Commission operate a duty roster for out of hours work in the evening and at weekends for which a duty allowance is paid. In addition there will be other driving duties including driving other BHC staff to appointments, ad-hoc procurement, bank runs and the transportation of official visitors. The applicant will also be responsible to oversee the maintenance of the High Commission vehicle fleet. Additional duties will be to support the Corporate Services team and with general office administration.
Main Duties
- Daily driving duties
- Maintain and clean vehicle
- Arrange refuelling, servicing, registration and maintain accurate records and documentation
- Act as duty driver for out of hours work every other week
- Manage the vehicle security escort system
- Liaise with the security provider regarding security and traffic updates
- Plan routes and liaise with security when travelling in and and of the city in particular when travelling to security “hot spot” areas
- As part of the Corporate Services Team, work proactively to support the Corporate Services Manager in a variety of administrative tasks such as purchasing, chasing invoices, covering switchboard and cleaning duties
- At least two years professional driving experience
- A valid clean driving license
- Strong communications skills
- Fluent in Spoken and good in Written English and Tok Pigin
- Experience in Office Administration
- Ability to undertake duties with minimal supervision
