The British Embassy to the Holy See represents the UK at the Holy See and is now looking for a dedicated COP26 Climate Change Policy and Events Officer.

The successful candidate will contribute to the successful delivery of the faith element of the International Conference of the Parties - COP26 this year. Specifically working to deliver a faith contribution for COP26 through a series of meetings of faith leaders and a wider programme of COP 26-related events for the British Embassy to Italy.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of the faith element of COP26, becoming an expert in UK COP26 policy, advising on religious sensitivities and Vatican/faith leaders’ priorities. Report on developments in Holy See climate change policy; 
  • Lead on liaising with partners on logistics and contribute to operational elements of delivering the faith component of COP26, in coordination with British Embassy in Holy See and London;
  • Working closely with senior managers you will provide high quality reporting and briefing for ministers and senior officials;
  • Deliver ministerial and official visits from the UK related to COP26 and contribute to the delivery of pre-COP event(s) with the Holy See and British Embassy in Rome;
  • Support the Italy Network in delivery of the UK/Italy partnership and a programme of events for COP26, particularly in outreach to Italian stakeholders and delivery of programmes and events;
  • Contribute to the wider corporate agenda of the Italy Network.

  • Proficiency in English and Italian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework* or equivalent);
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working for an organisation in a relevant field, for example, working for/with national or regional government, international organisations or agencies, preferably in climate change and/or environment;
  • Excellent networking and relationship-management skills;
  • Strong organisational and delivery skills;
  • Flexible approach, strong initiative and adaptability to evolving work priorities.
  • University degree in climate science, international relations, or other relevant discipline;
  • Experience of working with the Holy See or Church institutions;
  • Communicating effectively with and influencing internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time temporary position with a contract of 9 months ending on 31/03/2022, graded B3(L) according to the FCDO grading structure. The monthly gross salary is Euro 2,929.00. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year, with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday 09.00 – 17.00.

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Rome are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
