The British Consulate-General (BCG) in Munich is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and we are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Business Development Manager Mobility to be part of the Department for International Trade’s team in any of our 3 locations in Germany (Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich).

The British Government representation in Germany consists of the British Embassy in Berlin, supported by two consulates general in Dusseldorf and Munich. The Department for International Trade is a UK Government department that promotes and finances international trade and investment, and champion’s global free trade.

Working for the Midlands Engine and the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Europe

The Department for International Trade (DIT) in Germany is looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to work in the Mobility team and promote investment into the Midlands region of the United Kingdom. The position is supported by The Midlands Engine, a UK government initiative focused on increasing productive economic growth and improving quality of life for communities in every part of the Midlands region (a region of over 10 million people located at the heart of the UK).

You will lead on promoting Future Mobility investment from Germany and selected European markets into the Midlands region in the United Kingdom. You will work closely with key stakeholders across government and with local partners to achieve this. This is a role that will be based in Germany and you will be mobile across Europe as necessary

This exciting new position offers the opportunity to work at the heart of the UK’s strategy to promote investment into the Midlands region in the UK from the Mobility sector (e.g. automotive, rail, aerospace, shared mobility platforms and related technologies). As part of Mobility Team in Germany, you will lead on identifying and actively targeting potential investors into the UK midlands. This involves developing and managing a pipeline of investment projects and providing expert advice to potential investors looking to invest or expand in the region. In addition, an important part of your job will be providing expert insight from Europe on Future Mobility to support the Midlands region developing its value proposition for Foreign Direct Investment.

The job offers much autonomy and freedom to set your own direction within the Mobility Team, not least in cultivating key business contacts in business and government. Following the UK’s exit from the EU, you will be involved in working closely with businesses to understand the present and likely future impact on them.

You will work as part of a friendly and supportive team at DIT Germany and a wider network across Europe, with regular opportunities to travel. DIT Germany also provides a modern and flexible working environment with the opportunity to work partially from Home Office.


Roles and responsibilities


Business Development:


  • Develop a robust pipeline of potential investment projects from new and existing investors into the UK midlands region.

  • Key account management of the UK’s key mobility investors from Germany

  • Engage with investors through various channels, i.e., on- and offline events, some of which you will be responsible for organising.

  • Leverage DIT and UK Government marketing campaigns to support your business development activities


Market Analysis & Insight:


  • Analyse the market for opportunities and trends relevant to increasing investment into the region.

  • Research what opportunities exist for the Midlands region as well as for German companies to support their market entry decision.

  • Support those within the British Government responsible for making policy recommendations and decisions.


 


Promoting the investment into the midlands:


  • Carry out activities, engagements and events to promote the Midlands and the UK as an investment location of choice.

  • Act as point of contact for VIP visits/missions to and from Midlands while ensure that the necessary senior relationships exist in market.



  • Experience in Key Account Management and Business Development;
  • Experience in the relevant industries and/or Foreign Direct Investment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be credible with the most senior business leaders;
  • Excellent written and spoken skills in German and English (C1 level);
  • Strong written, analytical and research skills;
  • Very good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Self-Starter – ability to work well on own initiative.


 

Although not essential on starting the job, the jobholder will be expected to develop working level knowledge of the key UK and German industrial and sector specific policies.

Our Conditions of Employment:

This is a fixed-term position for a contract period of two years, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement.

Working hours per week are 37,5 net. We offer a flexible working policy but the successful candidate may sometimes need to work the occasional evening/weekend when there are visits/events or open up the Consulate in the morning or close in the evening.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate-General in Munich are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
