You will be based at the British Embassy in Copenhagen. Here, you will become part of the Scottish Development International unit (SDI) and join our Nordic team of 8 colleagues. SDI is Scotland’s international trade and inward investment agency, responsible for delivering the Scottish Government’s international trade strategy.

What will you do in this role?
You will work on building Scotland’s reputation and reach within digital and industrial tech across the Nordic region with a special focus on the space, financial and digitalisation sectors.
You will be responsible for developing strategic relationships that increase Scottish exports and provide market insights into the Nordic economies. Some of your main tasks will be to:
Provide expert support and advice to Scottish companies wishing to enter the Nordic markets within digital, space and industrial technologies
Deliver against Scottish Government trade strategies and export targets and advance Scotland as a centre for technology innovation
Leverage the relationships/networks built over the last few years and build new strategic relationships that identify export opportunities and economic partnerships
Lead on the development of partnerships and networks with Nordic stakeholders such as chambers, incubators, clusters, academia and industry bodies
Collaborate with colleagues from across the UK Government as well as Danish governmental departments and agencies
Facilitate key events and activities which support Scottish trade work in the Nordics, including webinars, conferences, roadshows, trade missions, ministerial visits, virtual or otherwise
Support the activities of the Scottish Government in the region as well as Scottish ministerial visits
You see the big picture, and you are comfortable collaborating with people at all levels in companies, ministries and embassies – from managers to ministers. Also, you are a team player with a consultative approach who can collaborate across borders and in virtual teams.
Moreover, you:
Fluency at C1 level both in English and other Scandinavian language according to CEFR Framework*
Bring minimum 5 years of experience in a commercial or trade sector role
Have knowledge of Nordic, UK and Scottish technology ecosystems – and you are highly interested in Scotland’s digitalisation, financial and space technology offerings
Are an experienced networker with existing networks/relationships in the Nordics
Have the flexibility to travel up to 20 days a year throughout the Nordic countries and Scotland
Speak English effortlessly and preferably also a Scandinavian language
Knowledge of cloud-based systems including CRM
An understanding of governments and their role in international trade and investment
Experience working in an international trade promotion environment
This is a full-time, permanent contract of 37 net hours per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Denmark in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Copenhagen are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Danish employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Denmark and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
