Run British Embassy Ljubljana's social media channels (currently Facebook, Twitter and YouTube), with the aim of building followers and engagement in support of UK priorities.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & campaigns. Support development of the Embassy’s digital media strategy. Working with the Head of Communications and across Embassy teams, develop and deliver impactful online campaigns focussed on our priority areas of engagement in Slovenia. Work with British partner institutions to present a coherent and strong UK brand in Slovenia. Create, maintain and share clear forward plans.
Digital analytics. Provide advice to Head of Communications, HMA and wider Embassy team on digital sentiment and debate in Slovenia, especially areas of interest to the UK, and identify the range of influencers with whom we can engage with to influence and engage new audiences. Use appropriate tools and methods to assess channels and audiences relevant to Embassy goals, as well as the impact of our communications (and others’). Make recommendations and refine our digital strategy (e.g. new approaches/channels).
Digital media engagement. Reporting to the Head of Communications, run British Embassy Ljubljana's social media channels (currently Facebook, Twitter and YouTube), with the aim of building followers and engagement in support of UK priorities. Develop ideas and recommendations for the Ambassador to spearhead our digital content, ensuring that she maximises building and maximising use of her digital profile in support of UK objectives, and is attuned to Slovene culture and audiences. Proactively suggest when and how we should respond to online debates and questions, responding directly as appropriate. Share openly and support Embassy colleagues to help secure consistent cover in your absence. Build your own strong links online and in person with key influencers. Keep Head of Comms updated with engagement and respond to questions and comment.
Design and content. Use photo, video and infographics creatively, to increase engagement and impact for Embassy content and build a visual identity for Embassy channels. Build your skills and capacity to be able to produce this content in-house. Where technical expertise required, seek budget approval and work with outside contractors to develop and deliver content.
Cross-cutting team support. Be the first point of contact for Embassy public enquiries. Manage/distribute messages and questions through social media accounts and embassy info e-mail account, taking responsibility for ensuring prompt responses by following up with designated leads. Maintain and update media subscriptions (STA, newspapers) ensuring we make the most of these and that we are achieving value for money. Support for Embassy corporate/internal activities and projects. Some elements of team projects and administration shared across the team.
Personal and professional development. Encouraged and expected to identify own development needs (in dialogue with line manager and CSO) and make the time to practice, learn and address these.
We are looking for a proactive, creative and organised colleague to drive the Embassy’s digital communications and lead our engagement with audiences and influencers online – including the Slovenian public, business, government, and academia.
This is a great opportunity to exercise creativity and leadership. We want you to re-assess our online presence, refresh our strategy, and then lead on delivery – representing the Embassy and the UK to online audiences in Slovenia.
Reporting to the Head of Communications and Public Diplomacy, you will be encouraged to develop your own external contacts, project proposals and content. You will also be called on to advice the Ambassador on her own communications.
That is why we are looking for candidates with:
The ability to communicate effectively in English and Slovene, in person and in writing. You will be a good writer who loves using language to make strong connections with our audience, in the right tone of voice for Embassy communications. You will need good interpersonal and stakeholder skills.
Imagination and an understanding of online audiences in Slovenia. You should be able to create content and partnerships that inspire conversations (and laughter). You will benefit from a good eye for design. In addition, as a creative thinker, we will value you as a source of ideas, both for online communications and for wider team projects.
A sensitivity to the ‘big picture’ and an interest in being part of it. You will be culturally aware, interested in the UK and the wider world, and understand what is relevant in Slovenia. You will need good judgement. Moreover, you will care that your work is part of making a difference in the real world.
Focus, flexibility, and teamwork. You will benefit from a strong ability to prioritise, multitask, solve problems, manage projects and deliver results. Government priorities change, unexpected events happen, things do not always go to plan. We are looking for candidates with resilience, the ability to adapt and to support the wider Embassy team.
Energy and passion for what you do. We encourage people to think for themselves and actively contribute to the life of the Embassy. It is about your values too: we have a cheerful, can-do, and people-centred ethos.
We would need you to have some background in professional social media communications. However, we are not looking for perfection (there is no such thing)! We want candidates with potential and ambition to develop and contribute to the development of the wider Embassy team. We are committed to supporting you in this and there will be many opportunities available to you, including job swaps in London or other Embassies, formal training and lots of on the job learning opportunities (not least being part of the UK’s global diplomatic network).

A good knowledge of social media platforms and tools
Experience with Mailchimp, Photoshop and design skills.
Experience in PR, or public sector, NGO or political communications.
Proven track record in planning and managing successful marketing campaigns
A deep understanding of the changing social landscape and a constant eye on the next big thing.
