The British Embassy in Minsk is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, defence, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy is seeking to recruit an Executive Assistant to the Defence Attaché who will manage bilateral projects, office administration and budgets, and facilitate an in-depth understanding of Defence issues and developments within the Belarusian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence.

  • Manage and facilitate the MODUK/Belarus MOD (BMOD) bilateral programme and liaise with BMOD on all visits into Belarus and the UK by military delegations from respective countries.

  •  Manage the Defence Section budget in accordance with MODUK procedures and liaise with BE Minsk Corporate Services on the implementation of One Her Majesty Government.
  • Advise on all issues which may affect UK/Belarus military relationships and maintain a network of contacts within Belarus MOD, Armed Forces, Defence commentators and think-tanks.

  • Meet think tanks, experts, the government and other authorities as necessary in Minsk and regional cities to discuss and report Defence issues; attend, interpret and note take at meetings for the Defence Attaché.

  • Monitor the media with a focus on Defence; provide regular reporting to the Defence Attaché, regional and London departments on topical economic news and events to build a picture on the Defence and PolMil picture in Belarus.

  • Provide office administrative assistance, manage the Defence Section vehicle, in accordance with MODUK procedures.


  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience.

  • Proven ability to manage expense and budget accounts.

  • Ability to plan, implement and manage projects through to completion, with the confidence to make decisions and give direction to enable this to happen.

  • Effective communication, including written and spoken fluency in English and Russian and ability to adapt communication style to different situations.

  • Strong analytical and judgement skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively and flexibly including out of office hours; and to travel within Belarus and overseas occasionally; and to contribute to special events/occasions in the Embassy calendar.

  • A self-starter that can work well both individually and in a team.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Willingness and desire for continual learning and development.

  • IT skills, including use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Driving license.

  • University Degree in a relevant area.

  • Personal assistant experience.

  • Network of contacts within Minsk.

This is a permanent full-time position, five working days, 36 hours net per week.
