View Vacancy - DIT Technology, Innovation and Sustainability Adviser (DEU19.574)
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British government’s lead department for international trade and supports foreign investment into the United Kingdom.
This is an interesting and varied role working across Energy/Infrastructure (based in Dusseldorf), Technology (based in Munich) and FCO/SIN policy teams (based in Berlin and Munich) to support projects and programmes around trade, investment, market access and influencing in a wide range of exciting, cutting edge and innovative areas. It offers opportunities for taking the initiative and for independent working.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of key projects and programmes around technology and sustainability; Develop expertise and links into the dynamic Berlin innovation and start-up eco system – working closely with colleagues from DIT, FCO, London and Partners, the Scottish Government and Welsh Government; Research and develop new trade and investment opportunities linked to sustainability and technology sectors in the areas of smart cities, climate change, technology and infrastructure;
- Support the delivery of DIT’s activities, for example supporting inward/outward missions, organising receptions, discussions and other events to promote UK-German dialogue to achieve economic and commercial outcomes;
- Working closely with the Trade Policy and Market Access Team to research and support policy development on issues relating to Technology, Innovation and Sustainability.
- Experience of project management;
- Bachelors degree;
- Experience in business development or trade policy;
- Ability to multi-task and have good organisational skills;
- Ability to problem solve and work under pressure to meet multiple and changing priorities;
- Good interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills in English (C1) and German (C1), both spoken and written;
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Previous commercial experience and working to achieve commercial outcomes;
- Previous experience working in or knowledge of the Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Technology and/or Business Led Innovation - particularly in Germany and/or the UK.
This is a full-time position of five working days 37.5 hours net (excluding unpaid breaks) per week, for an initial contract period of two years.

Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
