The British Embassy in Muscat has a vacancy for a Intern for three (3) months to start in June/July.

Main purpose of the job:

This job will have two elements, firstly the Intern will be responsible for supporting the execution of the programme team's communication strategy and managing the social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter).  Secondly, they will provide administrative and project management support to the programmes team in delivering the embassy's programmes across various thematic areas (including cyber, economy and education)  

Main duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work directly to support British Embassy Muscat's Programme team.

  • Leading on the Programme team’s communication strategy and social media feeds. They will be responsible for drafting and posting content to raise awareness of the team’s projects, as well as grow the social media following to ensure we are able to communicate directly with our target demographics. Translate communications material, when necessary, support in the development of audio-visual materials, and assist in developing and submitting regular media monitoring reports. 
  • Supporting the project management of various programmes focussed on resilience, diversification, and education – as well as helping to shape future programmes. This might include attending meetings and taking minutes, organising events, and assisting in the development of new project ideas. 
  • Representing the British Embassy Programme team externally, attending events, and ensuring the Programme team is updated on current affairs regarding agreed upon areas. 

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens

Working Conditions and Remuneration:

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including an allowance of 150 Omani Riyals per month; and use of on-site recreational facilities including a swimming pool and social club.

This is an Internship role for 3 months with a possibility of renewal for another 3 months. Normal working hours are 07:30 – 14:30 Sunday to Thursday.  This position is open to flexible hours as agreed with line management. However, the successful candidate may sometimes be required to work outside normal working hours.

The Intern will have the opportunity to learn about key elements of UK Government, including the Foreign Office and National Cyber Security Centre. The intern will also have the opportunities to develop knowledge on cyber-security, education, skills and digital technology.

The programme team is keen for the intern to learn and develop as much as possible and so will be open to ways in which we can assist with that. The FCDO has a vast online learning portal which will be available to the intern.

Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the potential employee having or acquiring valid UK security clearance. Security clearances can take several weeks to process. Inability to obtain a clearance will preclude employment. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two - three months.

The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks. 

The successful applicant's employment will only be confirmed after the completion of any security clearance/checks. The checks can take several weeks to complete, and the applicant will only be employed if the UK security clearance is granted.
