This is an exciting opportunity to work on improving bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Brazil. The jobholder for this position will be key to the success of the UK’s trade policy and market access objectives.

The main purpose of this position is to support DIT sector leads in their engagement with the Federal government (Executive) and Congress (Legislative) in Brasilia and facilitate meetings at the right level between the UK Government and Brazilian interlocutors. The jobholder will be expected to support delivery of different sector’s market access objectives by creating a government relations strategy for each priority sector (Agritrech, Automotive & Advanced Engineering, Food & Drink, Life Sciences, Infrastructure, Energy) in conjunction with the sector lead, as appropriate. The position will be based in Brasilia and will help build bridges between governmental stakeholders (regulatory agencies, ministries, secretaries, legislative) and DIT Brazil.

Working as part of the Trade and Economics Team, you will be responsible for supporting DIT’s efforts to reduce or remove market access barriers to trade & investment with Brazil. You will use key project management processes and government engagement strategies as well as account management techniques to deliver an excellent service to the sector leads supporting the Head of the Team in delivering this work.


Relationship Management with key Brazilian government Stakeholders (40%)

You will help sectoral teams, at a technical level, with government stakeholders, building connections and relationships as necessary to deliver UK market access objectives, taking on institutional representation when appropriate

You will assist sectoral teams in creating a government engagement strategy for our priority sectors in Brazil, bringing in the Political Team. This strategy help deliver our Country Trade plan, and will address our strategic priority barriers for the given sectors.

You will follow up on the strategy, once agreed with teams and monitor delivery. You will assist teams in developing a strong network and relationships with key government and industry stakeholders, including ministries, regulatory agencies, Congress and industry/trade associations. You will work on technical matters like SPS standards, regulatory compliance issues, customs & duties, etc.

Market Access Commercial support (40%)

You will be responsible for supporting the Sector Managers in the development and execution of their Market Access plans. You will be the main organiser of regular meetings, training to share best practice and any other tools/procedures to track and monitor Market Access work in Brazil with sector leads. The job holder will be the focal point for information management about Market Access work in Brazil for both ODI and FDI.

Part of your job will be to work collaboratively with other teams inside the British Government, like Trade Policy, Prosperity, Political team and Science & innovation teams to identify synergies and boost commercial outcomes from the barriers that are being resolved.

With the Digital Market Access Service, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing and prioritising the market access barriers in Brazil.

To supplement this work, you will also collaborate with the FDI team to capture Brazil’s asks of the UK in terms of Market Access.

Coordination of Market Access Work with London (20%)

You will be the main point of contact for the market access work in the Bilateral Trade Relations team in DIT HQ. You will gather all the feedback from the sector managers regarding the Digital Market Access Service and coordinate the communication between local team and London, as well as ensuring DIT Brazil’s views and priorities are reflected in briefings and submissions to Ministers.

Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Trade, Public Policy, Economics, International Relations, International Business or related subjects.

Relevant experience in trade policy, regulation or related fields.

Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills.

Evidence of delivering positive results through collaboration and networks.

Evidence of excellent written and spoken communication (English and Spanish).

Relevant post-graduate qualification.

Prior work experience in trade policy or negotiating teams.

Knowledge of UK policy and business landscape.
