Main purpose of job:

The purpose of the role is to help the UK achieve its export targets in a way that supports long-term trading relationships, inclusive growth and longer term economic development in Pakistan. As a key member of the UK International Trade Team in Pakistan, you will help to develop and deliver our business and trade policy plans.

You will be focused on Infrastructure opportunities, allowing you to build expertise and sustain long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with business leaders, government officials in both Pakistan and the UK, and regulatory bodies as necessary. This will allow you to promote credible, export-ready UK companies to achieve more business in this exciting and growing market.

You will also be expected to respond to queries from UK companies and be a point of contact for trade advisors based in the UK regions.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently and understand how their work fits in with the wider Trade team and other teams from across the British High Commission and Deputy High Commission. You will support the work of the team in briefing the Deputy High Commissioner on a day-to-day basis, as well as the High Commissioner.

Whilst based in Karachi, you will need to work closely with colleagues across Pakistan, your counterparts based in the regional hub in Dubai, and London.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

 Your key areas of focus will be on developing the UK’s influence in a priority sector for Pakistan; and managing enquiries to support UK SMEs already exporting to Pakistan or keen to explore opportunities here. You will:

  • Contribute to the analysis of key market sectors in Pakistan, assessing the UK’s comparative advantage.
  • Support the development of campaign plans in priority sectors.
  • Establish and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders, locally and internationally.
  • Support the Pakistan Trade Team to deliver the full range of its work, including high quality briefings, visits, events and business planning material.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the UK Government to contribute to on longer-term activities to improve the business environment in Pakistan.
  • Perform an important communication role, liaising with government departments, chambers of commerce, associations and local companies to share information about recent developments and inform UK companies of opportunities.
  • Work flexibly, taking the initiative when opportunities arise, and at times, lend a hand on other pieces of work, taking on additional responsibilities as per the requirements of the team.

Language requirements:

Language: English
