Main purpose of job:

The British Consulate-General in Sao Paulo is seeking a skilled and creative Communications professional to support the British Diplomatic Mission in Brazil to help implement strategic communications initiatives to promote UK leadership and help us advance key areas, including trade and investment, education, climate and science and innovation. This will be an exciting and unique opportunity to provide support in a range of different areas and also with internal communications.

This position is part of a cross-post team, which creatively supports projects across a wide range of initiatives developed and implemented by the UK in Brazil Network. Amongst the main responsibilities of this role are: leading the creation and development internal comms activities, supporting press and media engagement, conducting news monitoring and reporting, as well as supporting events, visits and general activities throughout the other posts (BSB, RJ, BH and Recife).

The ideal candidate must be an individual with a personal ambition to grow and play a part in the continuing relation between the United Kingdom and Brazil.

The successful candidate will help to continuously improve the internal communications flow, supporting the organisation to reach its objectives, based on the Brazil network’s core values of Excellence, Respect and Together.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide support to Deputy Head of Comms, especially in PR work (e.g.: giving support on special projects, from the comms planning to the execution).
  • Assist in UK official events and campaigns: support on events, official visits and comms initiatives, including photo and digital coverage and the production of comms materials.
  • Assist the British Government and British companies in raising their profile in Brazil.
  • Assist in the engagement with the media by producing press releases and contacting journalists.
  • Management of library files and materials; purchase, distribution and storage of promotional items.
  • Lead an implement an internal communication strategy.
  • Monitor the media and produce internal and external reports; working on digital monitoring and feeding.
  • Management of print and online publications: purchase/distribution.
  • Administrative tasks, including contact with suppliers, documents management and data base update.

Essential on arrival:

Professional experience in Communication or Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertisement and correlated areas.

At least two years of professional experience in Communications, both Internal and External, including press engagement, campaigns and events.

Excellent communication skills both in Portuguese (Native) and English (Fluent).

Experience with social media and digital campaigns and knowledge in Office package are essential.

They should also be committed, proactive, responsible and a team player.

The job position requires flexibility, willingness, and ability to deal with multiple tasks and priorities.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Portuguese

Level of language required: Fluent

Desirable:

The candidate will be a university graduate in Communication or Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertisement and correlated areas.

A good understanding of Brazilian media and/or experience working in a private sector communications team or communications agency environment would be a strong advantage, as well as experience in an international environment.

Video and photo editing skills are also a desirable asset.

Interest in the Brazilian political scenario is desirable.
