This role will be charged with bringing a new level of ambition to GREAT activity in the LATAC regions. Following the approach set out in the region’s countries Strategic Communications plans, the role should set out a challenging and driven approach to marketing and communications relating to GREAT

The overall responsibility for the GREAT Programme is managed centrally by the GREAT HQ team within Cabinet Office in London, working closely with the FCDO (GREAT Challenge Fund team) to activate the GREAT brand internationally via the large network of UK posts compromising of different cross governmental departments (incl. FCDO, DBT, Visit Britain, British Council, etc.) .

This role will be based in Mexico City and report to the FCDO Head of Communications LATAC Hub, with one direct report. The role will be one of 6 regional leads.

Roles and responsibilities

As the GREAT Lead for LATAC you will be the champion and key point of contact for GREAT in the region. You will:

  • Lead and drive GREAT activity across the region in collaboration with the GCF and GREAT HQ teams and in line with country communication strategies, identifying new opportunities for GREAT and strengthening existing communications and marketing activity.
  • Take a proactive approach to inspire and encourage Posts and Regional counterparts from GREAT delivery partners (such as DBT, Visit Britain, British Council) to run GREAT activities utilising local, regional and global opportunities, ensuring alignment and a joined up approach.
  • Act as an advisor for Posts in the development of GREAT Challenge Fund (GCF) bids, ensuring quality control and signing off all activity before bid comes to the GCF team and GCF Board for final approval.
  • Act as brand guardian; champion the brand and encourage consistent use of GREAT by XHMG and partners, upskilling where needed.
  • Develop and lead relationships with local marketing teams of UK companies operating in the market, working closely with the central GREAT Campaign and Partnership Team
  • Champion reporting, evaluation and ROI for GREAT in the region; regularly share best practice with the central GCF and GREAT HQ teams and other Regional Hub

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount. Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

 



  • Experience of playing a leading role in campaigns and developing campaign content and messaging for a variety of channels.
  • Experience of managing diverse stakeholders in working together towards a common goal.
  • Experience of using insight to develop campaign objectives, messaging and creative solutions.
  • Experience in supporting integrated marketing strategies for multi-channel paid and no cost campaigns.
  • Experience in monitoring campaigns, analysing performance trends and developing recommendations to increase the effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Excellent networking skills with colleagues within your organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in building trust with external partners.
  • The capability to drive progress in the face of a range of competing views and priorities in a complex environment.
