View Vacancy - HK - Education Sector Lead, UK Department for International Trade, Hong Kong and Macau
Main purpose of job:
The person in this role will lead on the education and training sector, building specialist knowledge of the sector and developing a strong network of connections in the UK and Hong Kong and Macau
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Working within a team of 3, the post holder will lead development and delivery of a work programme to support UK organisations to take advantage of opportunities in this sector e.g. international school licenses, eLearning opportunities, education infrastructure, transnational education opportunities (working closely with the Investment Team).
- Using this knowledge and network, the individual will gather intelligence on opportunities in Hong Kong and Macau, undertake proactive business development work on identifying UK companies in a position to benefit from opportunities and promote those opportunities to them.
- The individual will then support companies to come to Hong Kong & Macau and do business. This will involve introducing companies to Hong Kong and helping them understand and navigate some of the challenges. It will also involve supporting UK companies and organisations already within Hong Kong to overcome challenges. This is likely to involve leading on the delivery of services (e.g. bespoke research, programme arranging, event management) to UK customers in education and training sector with the potential to win large amounts of business.
- The post holder will contribute to the GREAT campaign work with a particular focus on making the education strand of the GREAT Festival of Innovation in March 2018 a success. It will be important to use the Festival as an opportunity to raise the profile of UK education and training, showcasing British Innovation in that sector and using the Festival to engage with and influence key decision-makers in the sector.
- The post holder will work collaboratively with British Council colleagues to promote the UK education and training sector in Hong Kong and Macau.
- There will be an occasional requirement to undertake similar work within other sectors particularly healthcare which is also looked after by this team.
- The role will require occasional travel to the UK and within the Asia Pacific region. Please note that occasional evening working will be required, although time off in lieu will be offered.
- An interest in and knowledge of the education and training sectors;
- A standard of written and spoken English equivalent to a native speaker with the ability to produce and edit high quality written English;
- Strong IT skills (particularly Word, Excel);
- High self motivation, a flexible and resilient attitude, with a strong commitment to deliver multiple projects often within tight deadlines, without supervision;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills – This is a client-facing role and requires significant amounts of liaising and networking. The ability to conduct meetings confidently, and network and socialise effectively at events would be imperative.
Language: Fluency in written and spoken English
- Level of language required: A standard of written and spoken English equivalent to a native speaker with the ability to produce and edit high quality written English.
- Knowledge of Cantonese would be highly desirable.
- Experience in project/programme management, events management and/or staff management is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake one week Delivering Sector Knowledge in London.
