Climate Diplomacy

Main Purpose of Job:

To provide administrative support to Climate and Environment team at the British Embassy in Brasilia.

This is a challenging position within the Climate and Environment team. 

The Climate and Environment team foster collaboration between Brazil and the UK through high-level visits, missions and programmes.  The successful candidate will support activities of the UK in Brazil on the climate and environment agenda, including on supporting the creation of a UK-Brazil Climate partnership and following up on COP commitments legacy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position will contribute to the British Embassy work to combat Climate Change, including support to diplomatic action on the immediate post COP27.

The British Embassy invites applications from students in at least their 2nd year. The candidate should ideally be studying International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics, Environmental Studies or related disciplines

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide support for projects and events. Responsibilities include arranging meetings, booking venues, setting up events, coordinating mailing lists, sending and following up on invitations, etc.
  • Provide research and administrative support to the Climate and Environment team, and more broadly to the Brazil Network.
  • Provide support on policy monitoring. Responsibilities include writing briefs on local government/stakeholders and monitoring political news
  • Assist in the ad hoc organisation of visits to and from the UK and Brazil, including arranging logistics around accommodation, transport, and support on briefing packs and meetings.
  • Occasionally attend events or conferences (in person or online, within working hours) and write reports on them for colleagues.

  • Must be a 2nd or 3rd year student in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics, Environmental Studies or other related disciplines.  
  • Must be proactive with strong organisational, communication, and team-working skills.   
  • Excellent command of English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
  • An interest in climate and environmental issues
Previous experience with climate/environment research and written reports would be an advantage.
