Main purpose of job:

To work closely with the Estates Manager to ensure that the estate (currently comprising 14 residential properties and 2 offices) and the fittings and furniture within are secure, healthy and safe to FCO standards and meet the service and standards set out in the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Roles and responsibilities :

  • Reporting to the Estates Manager and co-reporting to Estates Assistant, the post holder will perform, but not be restricted to the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the Estates and Office Assistant in delivering the planned preventative maintenance programme by ensuring that all monthly, quarterly or twice yearly checks (generators, cleaning of tanks and showers) are carried out on time.
  • Assist with monitoring office and residential accommodation to ensure that Health and Safety standards are met.
  • Carry out minor electrical maintenance works and installations such as connecting/installing and disconnecting washing machines, stoves, replacing light fittings, ballast and bulbs.
  • Carry out minor carpentry maintenance and installation works such as mortice locks, notice boards, key boxes etc.
  • Respond to minor plumbing maintenance requests such as repair of faulty taps and leaking pipes, replacement/repair of cisterns, unblocking baths/toilets and other drainage systems (storm drains, gulley traps).
  • Carry out monthly refuelling of residential and office generators (or more frequently if required). Ensure that generators are fully operational with regular servicing in accordance with their service schedules.
  • Sourcing quotations for maintenance projects which provide value for money.
  • Undertake purchasing of plumbing, electrical and general maintenance items as and when required to maintain stock levels. Ensure that stock control procedures are strictly adhered to and stock properly accounted for.
  • Control maintenance stock, maintaining stock levels and ensuring proper stock control procedures are in place and stock properly accounted for.
  • Provide cover for the Estates and Office Assistant by supervising contractors’ work in his absence.
  • Assist with updating office and residential inventories.
  • Provide assistance to the Estates and Office Assistant in asset disposal
  • Monitor water distribution from the main supplier including weekly deliveries of drinkable water.
  • Monitor monthly reading of water and electricity
  • Ensure the deep cleaning of residential properties is complete within agreed timeframes in advance of officers arriving at post.
  • Provide logistics support to the Estates Team as and when required.
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Line Manager.

  • 2 years work experience of property maintenance
  • Good experience in general handyman requirements
  • Health and safety knowledge
  • Good computer skill ie. Excel and word
  • 1 year minimum experience of driving licence
  • Experience of responding to service requests and office administration.
