To work closely with the Deputy Head of Mission and Corporate Services Manager to support expatriate diplomatic staff and their families on family and community issues, principally in the areas of information gathering, welfare and communication.

Information gathering for UK-based officers and their spouses/partners and families, prior to and throughout their posting to the Philippines.  To include the provision and advice of information on spouse/partner employment at Post; children's education; adult education; career and training opportunities; single officer and foreign born spouse/partner issues; recreational facilities; and social matters. Completion of the Diplomatic Service Family Association (DFSA) report; Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Report and annual Cost of Living Allowance Survey.

Welfare at Post: welcoming and supporting all UK based staff on posting/temporary duty/flexible deployment and accompanying families to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Post community; following up to check that the settling in process is working; being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; providing short Post community induction.

Advocate for UK-based staff and families in raising /voicing issues of importance with Post Management, as their representative at meetings such on the Post Joint Management Board, Post Housing Committee and Post Crisis Committee. 

Communicating effectively on community and social matters to UK based staff and their families. Keeping staff up to date with significant policy changes affecting families. Link between post and DSFA in London. Building CLO (Community Liaison Officer) network with CLOs in Manila from other Embassies in the Philippines. Also build good working relationships with Facilities Management Team and post looking after residential estate.

Information management of UK Based Staff Handbook, Post Welcome Pack, CLO homepage on Post’s Intranet/SharePoint site, input to update and review of Post Report and Fact Sheet.

  • Holds one of the following passports: UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to build network of contacts and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of living and/or working overseas / away from home country
  • A good knowledge of the UK 
  • Previous CLO experience or experience of expatriate Embassy life
  • A good knowledge of the Philippines, such as places to shop, dine, socialise and meet new people and the enthusiasm for sharing them
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment with welfare issues

This position is being advertised as a part-time permanent contract linked to the British Embassy’s Local Staff A2 grade.

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package (salary will be abated for those not liable to tax), 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on Pro-rata basis if joined after 1 January), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year. 

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must be eligible to work in the Philippines in order to apply.
