Department for International Trade (DIT)

Main purpose of job:

To support the increase of UK exports to Venezuela and to ensure that engagement with Venezuela on business and trade and investment supports the wider British Government-Venezuela engagement strategy.

Roles and responsibilities:

To lead the Department for International Trade team at the British Embassy in Caracas as it works pro-actively with the DIT network in Latin America, all parts of the Embassy and the British Council to: 

  • Secure export wins for UK companies in Venezuela through DIT high value campaigns in Oil &Gas and Financial Services;

 

  • Develop strategies to identify new high value opportunities for UK companies in Venezuela in areas not covered by existing HVCs;

 

  • Encourage new and existing UK exporters to secure export wins in the Venezuelan market through close co-operation with the British-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce and regional trade bodies;

 

  • Advise companies on the challenges of doing business in Venezuela;

 

  • Address the major market access issues faced by UK companies doing business in Venezuela and informally prepare the ground for any future bilateral free trade arrangements. The exact division of trade policy work between DIT and Prosperity teams is still being worked out, but in any case the jobholder will need to work closely with Prosperity team and other UK stakeholders on trade policy and market access/business environment issues;

Offer advice and support to the Ambassador in his efforts to win business for UK companies in Venezuela.

Promote the UK as an innovative and creative partner, with a world class commercial offer that directly maps onto critical Venezuelan requirements.

Experience of doing business in Venezuela, understanding of the challenges faced by international companies in Venezuela.
