This is a temporary position for six months.

Main purpose of job:

The British High Commission is recruiting short term support to join the team relocating Afghan and British nationals to the UK via Pakistan. The Afghan Relocation Islamabad Team (ARIT) made up of caseworkers, logisticians, senior managers, information managers and policy staff drawn from the UK Armed Forces, CBS staff, FCDO in London and the BHC community. The British High Commission is recruiting short term support to join the team relocating Afghan nationals to the UK via Pakistan.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

We are seeking full-time caseworkers to join the team. The work is fast-paced and requires medium level IT experience, the ability to think creatively, excellent communication skills, being able to manage conflict through to resolution and work collaboratively within an operationally focused team.

The job can be challenging at times given the people you will be engaging with and the life stories you will hear, it’s essential to be able to draw on human emotional responses such as compassion, in order to professionally execute your duties in an inclusive and fair manner. You will be dealing with people who have experienced real trauma within their lives and many are suffering with severe mental health issues. However, all be it challenging at times, it’s rewarding work to be involved in, you will be at the forefront of delivering on an important government priority and our Afghans EP’s relocate to the UK and start a new life surrounded by opportunities and safety.

You’ll be joining a supportive and experienced team who will work closely with you during the on-boarding phase.

  • You will be acting as the first point of contact for vulnerable Afghan nationals eligible for resettlement to the UK and guide them through the resettlement process.
  • Taking decisions on appropriate life support needs - accommodation, medical, and other life-support - for Afghan nationals whilst in Pakistan ahead of their eventual travel to the UK.
  • Managing a large caseload, with regular communication with the EP’s (Eligible person) both face to face and via WhatsApp.
  • This work cannot be carried out remotely, and we expect our team to be actively available in the office or deployed to our Hotels.
  • Leading on relevant identity checks and any additional investigative duties to ensure that UK security interests are protected.
  • Providing Pakistani cultural advice and recommendations to Afghan nationals and wider ARIT colleagues.
  • You will be provided training on the job and given the support to be able to execute your duties.

Excellent IT Skills, particularly Excel and Teams, excellent communication skills and ability to deal with challenging situations.

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Excellent command of written and spoken English

Dari or Pashto language skills.

Salary Details:

For BHC candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. For other than BHC candidates the basic salary will be ­­PKR 174,259 per month.
