The British Embassy Tel Aviv has a vacancy for a Science and Innovation Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward the work of the Science and Innovation Network (SIN) Israel, alongside Head of SIN Israel, while working in a dynamic and international environment.

Duties and responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities for this role include

  • Execute science and innovation-related projects, working independently while liaising with senior stakeholders, programme shaping, managing challenging logistics, drafting communication pieces in line with UK strategy, troubleshooting and making effective decisions on individual cases offering recommendations to the Head of Science and Innovation Network Israel when necessary.
  • Develop and manage own network of decision making level stakeholders across the Israeli and UK science and innovation eco systems.
  • Manage the SIN team budget.
  • Regularly represent SIN/Embassy at events alongside or on behalf of the Head of SIN Israel, including occasional overseas travel.
  • Lead on content of delegations and events in Israel and the UK, as well as science and innovation elements of Senior Governmental visits (including Ministerial) working on logistics with the Visits Officer.
  • Work independently using own initiative to identify potential projects through active research and analysis of science and innovation trends, linking to wider cross Embassy/department objectives.
  • Supporting Senior Management both Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador as required, providing briefing material, original speech writing, written reports and recommendations.
  • Deputising for Head of SIN Israel in their absence.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance; and
  • Are able to work legally in Israel.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Strong IT skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in organising events.
  • Government and/or International experience – working in international organisations.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) and proficient in Hebrew (written and spoken).
  • Experience working in or with the Science/ Technology sector
  • Experience working in or with academia or research sectors
  • Experience working within the UK landscape

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 13,000 per month plus social benefits: pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy.

This position is offered on a full Time, permanent contract basis. The successful candidate will be on a six-month probationary period. 

Working hours is 37.5 per week. Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working outside of normal office hours (evenings/ weekends) during visits and to attend networking events, receptions, and seminars. Any flexible working patterns (such as combination of office and remote working) may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
