Main purpose of job:


To support the High Commission’s economic and trade policy objectives in Australia by lobbying and influencing in support of UK objectives and providing information, analysis and policy recommendations for UK trade policy ambitions. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Working with members of the Economic Diplomacy team, carry out proactive and reactive first hand research and analysis that informs recommendations in support of economic and trade policy goals for HMG customers.
  • Help design, deliver, monitor and evaluate projects that support the UK’s trade policy objectives including the implementation of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement and joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. 
  • Within the Economic Diplomacy team and with the Australia network support resolution of trade barriers facing UK firms. Identify opportunities to prevent market access barriers evolving and seek to develop joint systems with Australia.
  • Provide support and help oversee trade policy events and visits.
  • Working the wider team to identify and implement projects that achieve trade policy benefits for the UK, helping turn policy into practical measures.
  • Working with the wider team to identify future trends and issues that will require a trade policy response.
  • Support the Economic Diplomacy and other High Commission teams in other reactive events.

This role advertised is a Full-Time, Permanent role to be based in Canberra.

Salary is at AU$ 105,485 per annum (paid out monthly), plus 11% superannuation.

Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.

Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.
