The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Romania and is now looking for a paid Intern to work with the Embassy’s Communications team.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Compilation of the daily press review;
  • Updates on the Embassy social media channels;
  • Contributions to public events;
  • Translation from English to Romanian and vice versa;
  • Maintenance of databases and audio/video equipment.
  • Excelent command of written and spoken English (indicated by certificates or graduation of an English-speaking academic programme)* and Romanian;
  • The completion of a bachelor university degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Sciences, European Affairs, but not exclusive of other degrees; (This is an essential requirement. The candidate needs to be able to provide evidence in the form of the original licentia);
  • Good knowledge of photo and video editing;
  • Availability for full-time employment from April 2021 to March 2022;
  • Good drafting, digital skills, and organisational skills;
  • Flexibility to sometimes work out of office hours and on weekends on exciting projects (compensated by time off in lieu);
  • An interest to develop and seek opportunities by completing tailored training via our Diplomatic Academy.
  • Interest in current affairs.

This is a full-time, internship contract until April 2022 (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 2,350 RON gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.

All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
