Department for International Trade roles (DIT)

With the impact of Covid-19 and the increasing challenges that countries with an ageing population face globally, this is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of the UK’s Healthcare and Life Sciences interests in APAC. The role of the British High Commission’s Trade Officer in the Department for International Trade (DIT) team in Singapore will be to work closely with the Senior Trade Manager to support the Healthcare and Life Sciences High Value Campaign in country.

This is a dynamic role for an enthusiastic individual to help to advance the British High Commission’s trade and investment ambitions. These include:

  • Objective 1 - Driving and inspiring UK exports to Singapore, significantly increasing the UK market share of Singapore’s goods and services imports.
  • Objective 2 – Broadening and deepening the UK-Singapore investment partnership, positioning the UK as the top European destination for Singaporean investment and providing strong support for UK investors.
  • Objective 3 - Consistent trade policy engagement with Singapore to achieve incremental market access, mitigate business risk and prepare for future trade deals.

Working within the British High Commission, the Department for International Trade (DIT) promotes British trade across the world and ensures the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities open to us, securing and improving the economic well-being and stability of the UK, and helping to create tens of thousands of jobs every year. DIT Singapore is also part of the DIT Asia Pacific network led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, one of nine global regions and part of an overseas network that operates in 108 countries.

The British High Commission’s DIT Singapore team offers a fast-paced place to work at the heart of UK: APAC government relations.

The Healthcare and Life Sciences priority campaign is part of a regional 5-market South East Asia campaign.  The successful candidate will support the Trade team in helping UK companies achieve Export Wins in Singapore through a range of targeted activities.

Working closely with DIT counterparts in the UK, you will identify key stakeholders and high value projects in Singapore and match them with UK suppliers to help them win business. This involves key stakeholder engagement including cross sectoral engagement; monitoring tenders and relevant media/websites to upload them onto our portal; maintaining and updating our business pipeline, contacts list and directory; collating ad hoc and regular research materials such as news articles; preparing reports on meetings; managing budgets; organising events and other in-market support activities.

Alongside Healthcare and Life Sciences there will be the opportunity to explore emerging future trade opportunities in Singapore in other sectors, liaising with colleagues to determine whether the UK offer is relevant. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Trade Manager to then develop and implement strategies in these emerging sectors

The Trade Officer will also work as part of the wider DIT and High Commission team, playing a role in delivering high profile activity and visits.  As such the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a high profile, busy and ambitious team.  In addition to core work, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to play a part in a diverse range of work such as planning and delivering Ministerial and VIP visits, running major events and engaging the business community.

The candidate will be expected to accurately manage and account for marketing budgets to deliver a variety of activities, reporting regularly to the Team Lead.
