The successful candidate will support the Foreign and Security Policy (FSP) team in a busy and friendly Political section, developing the Embassy’s work on Chinese foreign policy projects. They will be expected to work closely with colleagues within the Political Section and other sections in the Beijing Embassy and China Network (four Consulates) to deliver excellent project support for the FSP team and beyond.

The core part of this role is focused on project support work, requiring an organised, proactive, and detail-focused approach. The jobholder will need to support the FSP team on the delivery of a wide portfolio of projects.

There will also be opportunities for the successful candidate to support other work for Political Section on the administrative side and, subject to workload, on visits. 


This position is advertised on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2018.



Position responsibilities:

  • Supporting team members with project finance and administration, including screening and processing quarterly returns and invoices before financial payments to implementing partners, raising requisitions, facilitating finalisation and signing of contracts, helping manage payment schedules, and other project related tasks.
  • Working in partnership with policy leads and external programme implementing partners to develop and review project budgets, update project finance documentation, and monitor project spend on a regular basis.
  • General administrative support for Foreign Policy and wider political network colleagues as and where required, potentially including work on visits.
  • Experience of project management, including budget management skill is essential.
  • Experience working with different budgetary reporting systems, such as OBIE and Hyperion.
  • Excellent administrative and IT skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good communication skills. Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Experience in finance management support.
  • Knowledge of working in a project management environment.
  • Chinese language skills.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan etc. The gross starting salary for this position before all deductions is CNY 10,348/ month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 14,559/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata.

Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
