View Vacancy - Space and Policy Attaché UKMIS (AUT23.265)
The British Embassy in Vienna is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Space and Policy Attaché. You will be the UNOOSA and COPUOS lead for the UK Mission. This means that you will represent the UK at UNOOSA meetings, build a network of contacts with UNOOSA and other Member States regarding Space issues and promote UK leadership on Space. As the Policy Attaché with responsibility for Space, you will devise and deliver UK campaigns aimed at ensuring delivery of UK Government priorities and to encourage the peaceful uses of outer space. You will liaise directly with UKMIS Geneva and New York to establish working relationships and to explore UNOOSA’s unique position within the UN system. Although you will focus on Space, you will be part of a flexible and collaborative team that also covers all, non-nuclear, Vienna based organisations and help to deliver UK success at all UN set piece events (CCPCJ, CND, COPUOS, UNIDO General Conference, UNTOC COP and UNCAC COSP).

Fluency at C1 level in English, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or equivalent;
Previous experience in the field of International Relations or at the United Nations;
Excellent written and spoken communication
- Experience of administration functions within a Member State Mission to the UN
This is a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed term contract until 31 March 2025. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata increasing to 30 days annually after 5 years of service. The Embassy also enjoys 14 Austrian / UK public holidays per year and we are committed to ensuring a work / life balance.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they are legally able to work in Austria. The Embassy is not able to assist with any visa or sponsorship arrangements.
The monthly salary will be € 4195 gross, payable 14 times a year. Please note that UK nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Austrian (UK) tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process. All other nationals will receive paid their salary minus social insurance deductions and are expected to comply with Austrian tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Austrian authorities.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Austrian employment law.
