The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Romania and is now looking for a paid Political Assistant to support work of the Political Team, providing analysis on Romania’s domestic and foreign policy and providing day to day support to the team, with opportunity to lead on their own projects and events.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting reports on internal and external political developments and letters as required;
  • Attending and reporting on political conferences and seminars;
  • Support with arranging visits for UK officials to Romania;
  • Support with organising political events;
  • Support with organising meetings and note taking;
  • Translation from English to Romanian and vice versa;
  • Compilation and analysis of political news;
  • Management of political and NGO engagement lists.
  • Fluency in Romanian and English (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*);
  • Completion of an undergraduate university degree;
  • Good drafting and organisational skills;
  • IT literacy.
  • Degree in Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, European Affairs or Public Policy.

This is a full-time, internship contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 2,350 RON gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.

All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
